        * grasp the information of results and solutions about pollution by listening.

        * get some phrases and expressions and use them to talk about what they can do with other types of pollution.

        * have the awareness of protecting the environment.

        二、Teaching importance:

        * Students can get the information of results and solutions about pollution by listening.

        * Students can use the phrases and expressions in the listening to talk about what they can do with other types of pollution.

        三、Teaching difficulties:

        * Help students fluently use the phrases and expressions in the listening to talk about what they can do with other types of pollution.

        * Help students use "it's no use doing sth." in practice.

        四、Teaching resources:

        Smart board; handouts; blackboard and chalks;

        五、Teaching procedures:

        Step1. Greeting and duty report

        Some effective methods to solve air pollution in London

        Step 2. Lead-in

        T: London has been saved since everyone in London did something. How about us? If everyone starts to do something for our environment, what will happen? Use an example to support your opinion. Let's take this question to start today's lesson.

        Step 3. General listening

        T: Lingling as well as her classmates talks about pollution after a lesson on the environment. Let's do the first listening to see what they mainly talk about.

        Choose the proper one from these three sentences.

        A. The reasons for pollution problems and the ways to build a green school.

        B. The kinds of the pollution and the methods of recycling at home.

        √C. The results of pollution and the ways to recycle and save energy at school and home.

        T: Let's focus on how they talk about the results of pollution. Listen to their opinions and finish the following questions.

        Step 4. Careful listening

        The results of pollution

        Lingling *What does she say about the pollution problem?

        "I'm worried about the future. Pollution is our great enemy and we have to fight it."

        Tony What's his result about pollution?

        It makes people ill and may even kill them. Pollution is a danger to our health.

        Betty Why does she talk about the cars on the roads?

        They use so much oil and cause pollution as well.

        T: After talking about the results of pollution problems, what will they do next?

        S: I think we should find out some ways to solve the problem.

        T: But as students, can you do something for the environment? What can you do as students?

        S: We can walk or ride a bike to school.

        T: Great! Let's move on to listen for how these friends solve the problem.

        What can students do?

        A. We can support a green school to recycle waste which can be used again.

        B. It's no use talking about what we can't do, but to think of what we can do.

        C. It's a good idea to save energy and recycle at home.

        D. We can walk or ride a bike to school instead of taking a car.

        T: What's the meaning of "it's no use talking about..."?

        S: It means" it's useless to talk about..."

        T: Look at these this example.

        S1: It's no use talking, but to work hard.

        T: After talking about the ways to solve the pollution problem, let's see what they think about at last.

        S: Though pollution is heavy, I don't think it's hopeless. If everyone starts to do something, the world will be saved.

        Step 5. Language in use

        T: After listening to the conversation between Lingling and her friends, do you know what we can do with the pollution?

        Here are three kinds of pollution. Choose one and prepare for five minute, then act it out.

        Make a dialogue in groups:

        *talk about the results of this pollution

        *give ways to solve this problem

        *use the expressions we learn from the listening

        Step 6. Summary

        T: Let's go back to the question at the beginning. After this lesson, have you got the answer?

        S: I suppose if everyone starts to do something, the world will be saved. Because if everyone takes action to do even a small thing, we can finally save the world.

        T: You make the sense. Therefore, after this lesson, I hope everyone starts to do something good for our environment. Remember: it's no use talking about what we can't, but to do what we can!
