After this lesson,students will be able to
1.Understand the origin of country music and the culture associated with country music.
2.Introduce country music by relating their own life stories,explaining basic information of the music type and as well as introducing the famous musicians.
3.Develop their speaking skills by making an interview.
This lesson focuses on guiding students to learn to introduce a music type by relating their own life stories.Sentences like“It made sb.think about...”“She came to realize...”“ It brings us back to...”“It reminds us that...”Through these,students develop their speaking fluency and accuracy.
Students may find it difficult to introduce a type of music by introducing the basic information of a certain music type within limited time especially when internet access is impossible.The teacher will provide relevant information and encourage group discussion to lower the difficulty.
Step 1:Leading in(3 minutes)
1.Have Ss read the title and tell them they are going to learn a kind of music and someone’s life which has been changed by this kind of music.
2.Have Ss listen to a piece of music,then have them talk about their feelings.
Sentence pattern:The music sounds...(warm/elaxing/...)
3.Listen again and have them guess the instrument that the singer played.
4.Ask Ss to listen again and chant,then tell what they think of the lyrics.
5.Guide Ss to the feature of country music.
(Simple lyrics and very often guitars are played in the music.)
【設(shè)計意圖】本環(huán)節(jié)雖然是導(dǎo)入環(huán)節(jié),但作用不僅僅是導(dǎo)入,一是學(xué)生從標(biāo)題里明白了本課的主要內(nèi)容;二是自然輸入鄉(xiāng)村音樂的三要素。學(xué)生一邊聆聽歌曲,一邊品味歌曲的樂器使用和歌詞含義,然后表達(dá)歌曲給自己帶來的感受。通過對一首歌的處理,讓學(xué)生明白了鄉(xiāng)村音樂的三要素:歌曲聽上去清新,令人放松;大多數(shù)使用吉他、小提琴或班卓伴奏;歌詞簡樸,貼近生活。

【設(shè)計意圖】以語言習(xí)得為導(dǎo)向的教學(xué),要求教師在教學(xué)中盡可能多地為學(xué)生提供語言輸入的機會,把交際作為課堂教學(xué)的中心環(huán)節(jié),使課堂教學(xué)以意義為中心,而不是以語言形式為中心,這樣的教學(xué)才能為學(xué)生提供理想的語言輸入(蔣祖康1999)。
以上三個詳讀環(huán)節(jié)緊緊圍繞鄉(xiāng)村音樂這一主題,分別突破了三個要點:一是鄉(xiāng)村音樂的基本常識;二是鄉(xiāng)村音樂給主人公Sarah帶來的改變;三是鄉(xiāng)村音樂的價值觀。在閱讀完課文后,學(xué)生先了解了鄉(xiāng)村音樂的基本信息,其中穿插了3個文化常識,即Country Music Hall of Fame Museum,Garth Brooks和Nashville,使學(xué)生對這些文化名詞有了一個更深刻的認(rèn)識,進(jìn)而更了解鄉(xiāng)村音樂。教師設(shè)計的句型操練是讓學(xué)生先聽音樂,然后用句型說出音樂給他們帶來的感受,這一環(huán)節(jié)使得學(xué)生能夠更深刻地感受音樂的力量。感受過后,教師與學(xué)生一起探討鄉(xiāng)村音樂的價值觀,在這個環(huán)節(jié)里,既幫助學(xué)生理解了故事,了解了鄉(xiāng)村音樂的涵義,同時又通過操練句型和快速記憶,突破了本課的4個重點句型,即It made sb think about...;She came to realize...;It brings us back to...;It reminds us that... 這都為之后的綜合活動提供了語言支持。

【設(shè)計意圖】交際離不開語境,口語教學(xué)也應(yīng)該在真實的語境下進(jìn)行。在課堂的最后,學(xué)生通過role play的形式推廣鄉(xiāng)村音樂,在采訪中學(xué)生運用了本課的重點句型來表達(dá)觀點、互相交流,達(dá)到了豐富和內(nèi)化知識的目的。

【設(shè)計意圖】本課以鄉(xiāng)村音樂作為主線貫穿始終,主要包括音樂帶來的改變,鄉(xiāng)村音樂基本常識以及鄉(xiāng)村音樂的代表人物,課后作業(yè)希望學(xué)生寫作時能自然模仿這個框架,介紹自己喜歡的一種音樂類型或體育或其他藝術(shù)形式。
教學(xué)反思
筆者主要從以下三個方面對本節(jié)課進(jìn)行了反思:
第一,深度解讀文本,挖掘文化內(nèi)涵。本課話題是鄉(xiāng)村音樂,是一種具有美國民族特色的流行音樂。中國學(xué)生對這種音樂相對陌生,為了讓學(xué)生通過本課的學(xué)習(xí)能真正了解鄉(xiāng)村音樂文化,而不僅僅是停留在語言知識與語言技能層面,筆者在詳讀的三個環(huán)節(jié)中重點突破了鄉(xiāng)村音樂的基本常識和價值觀,在講解過程中對文化名詞The Country Music Hall of Fame Museum,Garth Brooks,Nashville,Tennessee等進(jìn)行了鏈接介紹,抓住了培養(yǎng)學(xué)生對未知知識產(chǎn)生興趣的最佳教學(xué)時機。
第二,教學(xué)活動設(shè)計指向性明確,為教學(xué)目標(biāo)的達(dá)成服務(wù)。本節(jié)課中每一個活動的設(shè)計都在確保其為教學(xué)目標(biāo)的達(dá)成服務(wù)的前提下,兼顧活動的多樣性、知識性、趣味性和文化性。例如,為了讓學(xué)生在最后的采訪活動中流利運用重點句型“Itmadesb.think about...”“Shecametorealize...”“ Itbringsusbackto...”“Itremindsusthat...”來介紹鄉(xiāng)村音樂和Sarah的音樂經(jīng)歷。從最后活動的效果來看,上臺的三個小組都能很好地使用目標(biāo)語言介紹鄉(xiāng)村音樂,表現(xiàn)十分精彩。
第三,充分體現(xiàn)學(xué)生的主體性。首先,授課教師在展示課前一天與學(xué)生交流后,重新確定了教學(xué)目標(biāo)和教學(xué)重難點,修改了活動形式,在教學(xué)設(shè)計中體現(xiàn)學(xué)生的主體性。其次,從時間上來看,五分之二的時間分配給學(xué)生閱讀和思考,體現(xiàn)了學(xué)生的主體性。再次,從課堂話語方面看,學(xué)生的個人表達(dá)和小組交流占整節(jié)課話語的三分之二,體現(xiàn)了學(xué)生的主體性。
本節(jié)課也存在些許不足:本單元的語法是完成時,文章中出現(xiàn)了許多havedone的結(jié)構(gòu),比如:Sarah hasreadalotaboutNashville,hasdonesomeresearchon....筆者沒有詳細(xì)處理,有待于再完善。
