        A Study on Oral English Teaching of Secondary Vocational Education in Rural Areas

        【Abstract】This paper probes the oral English teaching of secondary vocational education in rural areas with the main problem and effective strategies.

        Introduction

        Oral English teaching of secondary vocational education plays a great important role in communication. While students in some rural areas can not get good oral English education, this paper talks about the main problems and effective strategies in order to help the students in rural areas improve oral ability.

        1. The Importance of Oral English Teaching in Secondary Vocational Education in Rural Areas

        English as one of a great carrier has become the most widely used language in every field of human life. In such kind of schools, much attention is paid to the students' ability to test but their oral ability is much poor. Due to speaking is more and more important to us, how to improve the oral English ability has been an urgent problem to be solved in English teaching in secondary vocational schools.

        2. The Current Situation and Main Problems of Oral English Teaching in Secondary Vocational Education in Rural Areas

        2.1 The Poor Atmosphere of Oral English Teaching and the Lack of Necessary Language Environment

        The students are learning English in the wrong language environment, there is little chance of saying English with other people except few weekly limited classes at school. Such English language environment seriously getting in the way of the development of the students listening and speaking ability, at the same time, the spoken teaching material is also poor.

        2.2 Little Attention to the Teaching of Oral English from Some Schools and the Teachers

        The teachers still focus on staying in the explanation of language points while oral English training is only as a mere formality. But from the point of view of the language learning law, verbal is the first in any kind of language and grammar is the second. Communicating with people is mainly by listening and speaking, rarely by reading and writing.

        2.3 The Insufficient English Teaching Resources

        A lot of English classes are still in the chalk and recorder mode, it is not the proper way in todays teaching methods. Teachers teaching methods are rigid, boring, lack of innovation, which will not only much defect the students' interest in English learning, but also on the teaching effect.

        2.4 The Different English Level Among Students

        The students who have good grades can read the text fluently, and do their daily conversation, while the poor students can not read the 26 letters, thus they are not able to speak English. Most of the students are tired of learning English, which results in the dilemma of oral English teaching in such kind of schools.

        3. Strategies of Improving the Effectiveness of English Teaching in Rural Secondary Vocational Education

        3.1 Teachers Careful Organizing of Teaching and Improving of Teaching Methods

        Teachers should use teaching media reasonably according to the characters of each class such as gestures, objects, slides and so on. The diverse teaching method can not only simulated scene of talk but also catch their attention by the colorful words, devise gestures, and tone of voice changes, which will able to promote the achievement of the teaching purpose.

        3.2 The Basic Train of Strengthening Students' Language Ability

        Teachers should be tolerant when imparting knowledge. They should use “l(fā)ove” to win the closeness and trust of students, to set up a close relationship with the students, and to create a good atmosphere in class. Teachers should also be in the activities of learning for students, and it will make the students feel more easily to speak English.

        3.3 Rational Selection and Flexible Use of Teaching Materials

        Teachers should add some materials which are beneficial to students' job, such as English resume and cover letter. In those English materials, there should be some large number of contents that students may ensure after graduation such as operation, guide and so on. The teachers should arrange the materials which are suitable for the activities in class and those materials should not be too professional and academic.

        3.4 The Use of Sub Level English Teaching Methods

        Teachers can put the students into some groups according to their grades. Some students with similar grades of English are supposed to be put in a class in order to choose their own suitable materials. And for those students who are in poor and do not want to learn, the teachers can make them optional other courses to replace the English class, and set up a number of interest in the course, fully arouse their learning initiative which they need.

        Conclusion

        Oral English teaching is much important to the students who are in secondary vocational schools, the author wish those students could improve their oral ability by the key strategies given in this paper.
