        The Analysis of Developing University Students’ Interests in Light Volleyball

        【Abstract】Light volleyball, as a mass sports activity, possesses three characteristics:sports, leisure and entertainment. It forms on the basis of traditional competitive volleyball and it has good practical performance. Light volleyball is widely accepted by sports lovers and it is the typical sport“made in China”. This paper studied university students interests in light volleyball. It aims at increasing students interests in light volleyball; generalizing light volleyball; laying de foundation for improving students physical fitness; providing reference frame for national fitness and the implementation of school sports.

        Light volleyball originated from 1984, it is an emerging sport in China. It purposed to enrich old peoples lives, increase their amount of exercise and improve their physical fitness before. From then on, light volleyball enjoys rapid development and, at the same time, it obtains the approval from IOC (International Olympic Committee) president, Samaranch. He deems that light volleyball is a wonderful sport, which is not only suitable for the old, but also the middle-aged and the young. Yet, there exists some differences between light volleyball and traditional competitive volleyball, the former requires lower physical quality, this allows more people to participate in such a sport. There is no denying the tremendous positive influence it has on the implementation of nationwide fitness strategy.

        1. Exercise Value of Light Volleyball

        1.1 Entertainment and Fitness Value

        Compared with the traditional competitive volleyball, light volleyball requires lower physical quality, and it is not affected by age, body quality. People who lack the skills of volleyball can also take part in it. The light volleyball competition is simple, ornamental and interesting. Light volleyball has good elasticity and it is much lighter. Both of them increase the competitiveness of it, such as increasing of rally duration. Participants can enjoy happiness and fun from this sport.

        At the present stage, the participants of light volleyball are mainly old people, meanwhile, the scope of the light volleyball participation crowd gradually broaden. Thus, a conclusion can be drawn that light volleyball increasingly becomes peoples one of the main exercise means. Promoting light volleyball is the inexorable trend. Compared with the traditional competitive volleyball, it owns much more moderate exercise intensity and amount. Participants can make adjustments according to personal physical condition to sufficiently keep fit.endprint

        1.2 Education Value

        The education value of light volleyball reflects on several aspects: firstly, it can improve peoples creative ability. In the process of light volleyball match, its tactic changes are guaranteed by corresponding skills. The purpose of match is to win the game and all the skills are trained for scores. Choosing proper tactics and flexibly using skills, people would be in a state of active mind. This, admittedly, develops peoples creative consciousness. Secondly, as a team sports, light volleyball plays a significant role in cultivating group consciousness and strengthening cohesion of us human beings.

        2. The Main Reasons of Limiting University Students Interests in Light Volleyball

        2.1 Lack of Understanding

        Light volleyball, as an emerging sport, has significant advantages. Although it enjoyed extensive promotion in our society and achieved a lot, most people are lack of understandings of it, especially university students who hold the opinion that light volleyball is a sport belongs to the old, who ignore the education and entertainment value of light volleyball. Meanwhile, university administrators pay no attention to the importance of light volleyball, teaching staff included, it makes it difficult to develop light volleyball in universities.

        2.2 Over-concentrated Promotion Ways and Existing Loopholes of Competition Rules

        During the promotion of light volleyball, the body is focused on the old. Although some middle-aged people and young people become members of this sport, it accounts for less percentage of the total population. With conspicuous advantages, light volleyball should be actively promoted by education sectors so as to increase the population participating in this sport, particularly university students. Due to the current stage, that the old occupy a large proportion of light volleyball, the safety and the entertainment of the sports are overly concerned in the process of making the competition rules. There are more and more people springing up like mushrooms in light volleyball, the present rules can not meet peoples realistic needs any more. In my opinion, on the condition that ensuring light volleyballs preponderance, adjust the competition rules and make specific rules according to different light volleyball participation crowd.

        3. Measures of Develop University Students Interests in Light Volleyball

        3.1 Set Reasonable Learning Goals

        Learning goals play the guiding role and inspiring role. The main reason why some students show no interest in the light volleyball is that they are required by project learning objectives in the light volleyball course. In this way, students who can play the volleyball can easily achieve the goal. On the contrary, students who have no foundation have to make more efforts to reach the target, they would feel frustrated and lose the study interest in the long term. Therefore, helping students set reasonable learning goals is of great importance in improving university students interests in light volleyball. However, there would be dozens of students in one class, it s impossible to help to set goals for every student, teachers can divide learning goals into different levels, then students select their personal learning objectives that they can accept.endprint

        3.2 Improve Teachers Professional Quality of Light Volleyball

        Teachers in university need to have good understanding of light volleyball and learn the advanced theory, besides, improve self professional knowledge. Only in this way can meet students requirements for light volleyball course. Physical education teachers are supposed to combine the light volleyball development trend, get known to all kinds of functions of light volleyball and construct comprehensive knowledge system. In the meanwhile, teachers face one severe challenge, that is, to improve self practical operating capacity. Thus, teachers have to bring forth new ideas for teaching methods and improve the quality of light volleyball course.

        3.3 Play the Role of Collegiate Athletic Association, Construct Good Light Volleyball Atmosphere

        With the gradual putting into effect of teaching reform of the institutions of higher education, college sports teaching is increasingly concerned by people. Set up collegiate athletic association to give more life to the boring sports activities. In the process of developing university students interests in light volleyball, for one thing, collegiate athletic associations promotion role in sports should be brought into full play. For another thing, pay more attention to the light volleyball, arrange the work of collegiate athletic association reasonably and the rules and regulations have to be perfection. Whats more, cultivate comprehensive talents, arouse the enthusiasm of university students and learn form the other institutions so as to provide good external environment for developing students interests in light volleyball.

        3.4 Strengthen Scientific Research

        Compared to the traditional competitive volleyball, light volleyball has something in common with volleyball. It has numbers of categories and forms. But, there is no standard theory system of light volleyball so far. And the competition rules are very casual. Universities should do overall and scientific study on light volleyball as the main scientific research place such as sport skills, competition rules and the like, so as to generalize light volleyball development.

        4. Conclusion

        Regarded as the primary mean to cultivate the students physical and mental health, physical education is of significance in university education. Light volleyball, which is worthy of being generalized, can efficaciously guide university physical education establish correct idea, transfer traditional teaching mode and develop the consciousness of lifelong sport and lay the solid foundation for national fitness strategy if it is popularized in university sports.
