as well as I could是一個由as…as引導的狀語從句，省略了謂語動詞answer,以避免不必要的重復。“as+adj./adv.+as+主語+can/could”結構可以用“as+adj./adv.+as+possible”來代替，像本句中的as well as I could 可以用as well as possible代替。例如：

He was running as fast as he could.

=He was running as fast as possible. 他盡可能快地跑著。

2.Two days later I received a letter offering me the job.

兩天后我收到了錄用通知書。

offering me the job為現(xiàn)在分詞短語作定語。例如：

Did you see the boy dancing with a pretty girl?

該句為if引導的虛擬條件句，表示與現(xiàn)在事實相反的假設。if從句中的動詞用過去式，主句中的動詞用過去將來式或情態(tài)動詞的過去式形式。由if構成的虛擬條件句，如果表示與過去事實相反的假設，if從句用過去完成時，主句用“would/should+現(xiàn)在完成時”。另外，該句中的if only表示“如果……就好了；但愿……”。例如：

You might be late if you went on foot. 假如你步行去，可能會遲到。

If I were a bird, I could fly in the sky.

如果我是一只鳥，我就能在空中飛翔。

If she wore a red coat, she would look much younger.

Having enjoyed the rides at the Headland是V-ing短語在句中作狀語，Having enjoyed…是V-ing形式的完成式，它表示的動作發(fā)生在謂語動詞所表示的動作之前。例如：

Having written the composition, he watched TV.
