Chongqing Municipality, China and Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)on establishing sister relationship, an effort to promote friendly cooperation between the two sides in terms of economy, education, culture,agriculture, tourism, and technical assistance.

Papua New Guinea (PNG), an extension of the 21stCentury Maritime Silk Road, is the first country in the Pacific Island region to sign a MOU for cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with China, and an important partner of China in the South Pacific region. Morobe Province,located in the central part of PNG, is a relatively developed province. Lae,its capital city, is the second-largest city in PNG and an important industrial center, enjoying a nationwide leading position in manufacturing, fish processing, and mining industries.

Chongqing Municipal Commission of Health has volunteered to implement the task assigned by National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China to provide medical assistance to PNG, dispatching a total of 12 medical teams to PNG since 2002. In November, 2020, Chongqing,under the support of the Chinese Embassy to Papua New Guinea, provided anti-epidemic supplies and medical services to Port Moresby General Hospital as part of China’s assistance for PNG’s battle against COVID-19.

2022年10月，中國重慶市與巴布亞新幾內亞莫羅貝省正式簽訂建立友好省市關系諒解備忘錄，推進雙方在經濟、教育、文化、農業(yè)、旅游、技術援助等方面的友好合作。

巴布亞新幾內亞地處21世紀海上絲綢之路自然延伸，是太平洋島國地區(qū)首個同中方簽署共建“一帶一路”合作協(xié)議的國家，是中國在南太平洋地區(qū)的重要合作伙伴。莫羅貝省位于巴布亞新幾內亞中部，是經濟較為發(fā)達的省份。其首府萊城是巴布亞新幾內亞第二大城市、工業(yè)重鎮(zhèn)，其制造業(yè)、漁業(yè)加工、礦產業(yè)都居于全國領先地位。

2002年重慶市衛(wèi)生健康委主動請纓，承擔國家衛(wèi)生健康委員會下達的派遣中國援巴布亞新幾內亞醫(yī)療隊任務，現(xiàn)已累計向巴布亞新幾內亞派駐12批醫(yī)療隊。2020年11月在中國駐巴布亞新幾內亞大使館支持下，重慶市向莫爾斯比港總醫(yī)院捐贈醫(yī)療防疫物資，幫助巴布亞新幾內亞抗擊新冠肺炎疫情。

The first Confucius Institute in PNG was inaugurated in Lae,Morobe Province in February 2021, jointly established by Chongqing Normal University and the Papua New Guinea University of Technology(Unitech). PNG’s Governor General, Sir Bob Dadae, attended the inaugural ceremony and announced its establishment.

In 2022, Chongqing Library set up the Chongqing overseas book corner at the Confucius Institute at Unitech, donating 300 books to present China and Chongqing.

Chongqing will continue to expand new fields and explore new vision for cooperation with Morobe Province, scale up people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and conduct all-dimensional, wide-ranging and multi-level bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

2021年2月，重慶師范大學與位于莫羅貝省的巴布亞新幾內亞科技大學合作建立的巴布亞新幾內亞第一所孔子學院正式揭牌，巴國家元首達達?？偠匠鱿瘍x式并宣布成立。

2022年重慶圖書館在巴布亞新幾內亞科技大學孔子學院設立重慶海外圖書角，向其捐贈圖書300冊，介紹中國和重慶。

重慶將繼續(xù)拓展與莫羅貝省合作新領域、新前景，擴大人文往來，推進雙方交流合作全方位、寬領域、多層次發(fā)展。
