Framework of Research on Ancient and Medieval Phonological Systems：

Based on Prenuclear Glides and Rime Doublets

Abstract：This article argues that research in ancient and medieval phonological systems should take prenuclear glides as its core and proceed from rime doublets in Qie Yun to understand the connotation and history of formation of rhyme-tables. Based on the construction of four kinds of prenuclear glides in the rhyme-tables of the late ancient and medieval periods， it discusses the inheritance and evolution of the prenuclear glide system in the two periods， the combination of prenuclear glides and vowels， and the relations between two phonological systems in

Four Issues in Dictionary Evolution

Abstract：This article attempts to explore the development of Chinese dictionaries from a cross-border perspective. 1. The trajectory of the development of Chinese dictionaries from the traditional monadic structure to the “character-word” binary structure. We believe that binary dictionaries first originated in Japan. 2. The trajectory of the development of terms such as dictionaries and dictionaries from proper names to generic names. We think Robert Morrison is the initiator of the generic name of “ZIDIAN”（字典， dictionary）， and the invention right of “CISHU”（辭書， dictionary） should belong to Japan. 3. The evolution of handling foreign characters in Chinese dictionaries. This article discusses the position and changes of Arabic numerals and letter words in dictionaries， and discusses the position of “〇” in dictionaries from both academic and practical aspects. 4. Possible future evolution within Chinese dictionaries. We propose three areas for possible development： Enriching the labeling items to realize multi-information and multi-function; accommodating descriptive dictionaries in order to realize the multi-type of dictionaries; and innovating the retrieval design from a cognitive perspective for dictionary users’ convenience.

Diachronic Variation and Modern Norms： Discussion on the Treatment of

“× di（地）” in Modern Chinese Dictionaries

Abstract：The forms of “×di” is treated differently in different modern Chinese dictionaries. Different dictionaries may include or exclude these forms， and transcribe the character “di” differently. They also may or may not list the variants of these forms. The difference results from the heterogeneity of “×di” forms in modern Chinese， which is the result of diachronic changes. The position of “×di” forms in modern Chinese lexicons should be reconsidered from the synchronic perspective. The inclusion or exclusion of these forms should be determined by their meaning， use and frequency; and the selection of the written form and the transcription of the character di should consider the historical development of this form.

On the Evolution of Personal Pronouns in

Hongya Dialect， Sichuan Province

Abstract：This article discusses the evolution of personal pronouns in the Hongya Dialect by reconstructing the earlier system and the phonetic changes. It demonstrates that the possessive forms of the personal pronouns are evolved from grammatical structures with sound compound， falling of the nuclei of the compound diphthong and analogy. Based on a cross-dialectal survey， it proposes that the grammaticalization of the family possessor is an important type of the possessive pronouns in Chinese dialects.
