Landmarks in London
Last summer holiday I went to the United Kingdom with my students and some of the other teachers.We visited many famous p laces in London.Such as Big Ben,London Eye,Tower Bridge,Buckingham Palace and so on.Do you want to know more about them?Come with me?
1.Big Ben
Big Ben is the short form for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Houses of Parliament.Big Ben is usually referred to both the clock and the clock tower as well.It is one of the most famous landmarks in London.It was built in 1859.It is over 96 meters high.The clock has four faces.You can view it from different angles.The m inute hand is over 4 meters long.
Although the origin of the name Big Ben is not known,there is a popular story.It was named after Sir Benjam in Hall,a large man who was in charge of the Great Bell.Hearing the Big Bell chiMing when walking along River Thames must be very enjoyable.But you cannot often hear the chiMing now because the clock is being repaired from August,2017.It will take 4 years to repair the big clock.
2.Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is over 300 years old.The palace is located in central London.There are 775 rooms in this palace.Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II lives and works in the palace.It is open to the public from mid-August until the end of September.
The Changing of the Guard is a famous sight.And it’s especially popular among visitors to the UK.The changing takes place at 11:30 am daily from May until the end of July.The changing lasts 40 m inutes.You can take fantastic photos with the cool guards and the horses.
3.Tower Bridge
Across the Tower of London,you can see a beautiful bridge standing over River Thames.It has two big towers.From a distance,the tops of the towers just look like two big crowns.That is Tower Bridge,one of the finest and most famous bridges in the world.It was built in 1886.And it opened to the public in 1894.It has become a symbol of London.Seeing the red tour buses passing the Tower Bridge is really the typical impression of London.From the Tower Bridge,you can see both old buildings and modern buildings standing beside the river bank.That’s a fantastic view of London.The middle part of the bridge can be lifted up when huge ships pass through.You can also visit the inside of the tower,where you can observe the original engines used to raise the bridge.

一、教學(xué)背景分析
1.教材分析
Longman Welcome to English 6B Unit 2的主題是“Exp loring London”,在本單元中出現(xiàn)了許多倫敦著名的景點,并主要訓(xùn)練了問路和指路的語言。本篇閱讀材料是在本單元的話題基礎(chǔ)之上,結(jié)合課外拓展閱讀和網(wǎng)絡(luò)資源整合的一篇閱讀材料,主要介紹了倫敦具有代表性的地標(biāo)。閱讀內(nèi)容豐富,符合學(xué)生認(rèn)知水平,滿足學(xué)生探究欲望。
2.學(xué)情分析
(1)滿足學(xué)生需求
武漢外國語學(xué)校的學(xué)生每周有六節(jié)英語課,其課時量在普通小學(xué)三節(jié)課的基礎(chǔ)上高出一倍。作為外國語學(xué)校的學(xué)生應(yīng)該具有“國際視野,世界情懷”,因此我特意選擇了國際化大都市英國倫敦的相關(guān)信息作為教學(xué)材料,開闊學(xué)生視野,增加文化積淀。
(2)提升英語素養(yǎng)
語言能力、思維品質(zhì)、學(xué)習(xí)策略和文化品格是構(gòu)成英語學(xué)科素養(yǎng)的四大要素。閱讀什么樣的材料可以提升學(xué)生的語言、思維、文化和學(xué)習(xí)策略則是教師重點要思考和研究的專題。六年級學(xué)生的閱讀策略和跨文化交際意識培養(yǎng)是關(guān)鍵。本節(jié)課主要通過略讀全文,理解大意;查讀文段,獲取信息,分享閱讀成果;多維互動等多種方式來培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的閱讀策略和技能。學(xué)生在完成閱讀活動的同時接觸了大量語言信息和文化信息,并在完成閱讀單的活動中激活了思維,學(xué)習(xí)策略得到了總結(jié)。
二、教學(xué)過程與方法
1.Pre-reading activities
(1)Free talk.
(2)Brain storm:What will you think of when we talk about the UK?
Possible answers:Big Ben,London Eye,crown,Queen Elisabeth II,River Thames,the telephone box,the guards...
(3)Pupils watch a short video about the teacher’s study tour in the UK and find out some landmarks in London.
設(shè)計意圖:互動交談,教師介紹自己所在城市的地標(biāo),并讓學(xué)生介紹深圳的地標(biāo),幫助學(xué)生建立landmark的概念。頭腦風(fēng)暴,引導(dǎo)學(xué)生說出對英國的印象,激活學(xué)生背景知識。觀看教師的游學(xué)活動視頻,拉近師生的距離,建立學(xué)生和話題的聯(lián)結(jié),激發(fā)學(xué)生的閱讀興趣和欲望。
2.While-reading Activities
(1)Get ready to read.Think about one question:How to be an active reader?
Four trips to be an active reader:
①Looking at the title,headings and photos.Use them to think about what you already know about the topic.
②Circle any new words.And try to guess the meaning in the context.
③write any questions you have about the text.
④Make word webs,outlines or charts to help you understand ideas visually.
(2)Task 1:Let pupils skim the text and find out:
What landmarks can you find?And where are they?(Big Ben:It is at the north end of the Houses of Parliament.Tower Bridge:It is over River Thames.Buckingham Palace:It is located in the central London.)

設(shè)計意圖:在學(xué)生初次接觸文本時,滲透Skimming閱讀策略,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生快速閱讀的技巧,快速閱讀全文,厘清文章脈絡(luò),明確文章的話題和大意??焖俳鉀Q倫敦地標(biāo)有哪些、在哪里的問題。
(3)Task 2:Ask kids to choose a landmark they like best and finish the worksheet about it.

(4)Task 3:Information exchange
Step 1.A fter individual reading,the pupils chose the same landmark can stay together,they can check their worksheet in their groups.
Step 2.The groups take turns to come to the front to give a report of their reading,the other groups can follow the sharing group to finish the worksheet at the same time.
設(shè)計意圖:提供給學(xué)生豐富的閱讀信息,猶如一頓自助大餐,學(xué)生可以選擇自己最感興趣的地標(biāo)去精讀,并完成對應(yīng)的閱讀單,閱讀單中有對每個文段的閱讀策略的培訓(xùn)。限時自主閱讀,不僅讓學(xué)生有自主選擇閱讀內(nèi)容的機(jī)會,還可以突出不同層次學(xué)生的閱讀差異,為后續(xù)的信息共享做好鋪墊。在信息共享環(huán)節(jié),閱讀同一篇文段的學(xué)生首先在一起討論閱讀成果,然后依次上臺做閱讀成果分享。其他沒讀到該文段的學(xué)生可以跟隨分享小組的步伐快速完成閱讀并補全閱讀單。閱讀信息分享環(huán)節(jié)為學(xué)生分享交流閱讀成果提供機(jī)會,形成信息互補,這樣一來,學(xué)生在單位時間內(nèi)所獲取的信息可以最大化。這也是異質(zhì)閱讀的魅力所在。
3.Post-reading Activities
(1)Group work:Read the text again and choose a landmark to introduce.
(2)Introduce some websites to pupils.Pupils can visit them after class to get more information about London.
設(shè)計意圖:學(xué)生在完成“介紹某一個地標(biāo)”的實踐活動中,進(jìn)一步內(nèi)化閱讀成果,學(xué)以致用。將課內(nèi)閱讀延伸到課外,擴(kuò)大閱讀空間,介紹一些優(yōu)質(zhì)網(wǎng)站給學(xué)生。在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)+時代,能擇優(yōu)獲取在線網(wǎng)絡(luò)平臺信息也是一種終生學(xué)習(xí)的能力。
4.Assignment
