A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She bought a book and a bag of cookies in the airport shops.
She was sinking into her book but happened to see that the man sitting beside her1)grabbed a cookie or two from the cookie bag. She tried to2)ignore it to avoid a scene.
So she chewed the cookies loudly and watched the clock, as the3)greedy cookie thief did not stop. She was so angry and thought, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eyes.”
With each cookie she took, he took one too. When only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her a half, and ate the other. She grabbed it from him and thought,“Oh! This guy was so4)rude! Why didn’t he even show any5)gratitude?!”
She6)sighed with7)relief when her flight was called. She gathered her8)belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the rude guy.
She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat. Then she looked for her book. As she opened her bag, she was surprised to see a bag of cookies.
“If mine are here,” she9)moaned, “the others were his, and he tried to share.”Finally, she realized that she was the thief.
