Situated beside the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, The Hotel de Russie Rome is an integral part of Rome, with its modern design that respects the classical architecture of the building and its green oasis.
The hotel's original name is \"hotel de Russie et des Iles Britannique\", but why does a hotel located in Rome have a Russian name? During the period from 1816 to 1819, many members of the Russian royal and Russian artists loved to visit Rome, they enjoyed the mild winter climate in Rome, and the hotel was their best choice in this Eternal City. The Romans therefore called it L'Albergo di Russia, and it was later renamed as Hotel De Russie during the French rule.
Countless celebrities have visited the hotel in the past. Russian ballet founder Sergei Dakilev, impressionist master Picasso, Princess of Russia's richest Yusupov family, Zeniade Yussupova, the Russian composer Stravinsky, are all regulars here.
During the Second World War, the hotel was requisitioned by the military information service and became the headquarters of RAI after the war. Until April 15, 2000, Sir Rocco Forte restored it into a luxury hotel, which was then reopened and operated by Rocco Forte Hotels.
The 2,800 square meters \"Secret Garden\" is the best gift of the hotel. It was designed and constructed during 1816-1818 by architect Giuseppe Valadier. It is hidden behind the main building of the hotel, with orange trees and old roses by the quiet walk and beautiful waterfalls – certainly a quiet oasis in the heart of the city. In the spring and summer evenings, Stravinskij bar located in the garden becomes the famous place for social celebrities of Rome city, an existing tradition for many centuries.
The hotel contains 88 rooms and 33 spacious suites with a blend of classical architectural features and contemporary design. The elegant design and exquisite romanticism are most alluring.
Suite Vaselli owes its name to Countess Romolo Vaselli, the owner of the building who bought the old building in the 1950s. Located on the fifth floor, the suite features a private terrace with a stunning view over the hotel's lush garden.
Located on the hotel's sixth floor, Suite Popolo's private terrace overlooks the monumental Piazza del Popolo and the picturesque terracotta rooftops so characteristic of Rome. Alongside classic modern Italian architecture design, the rooms are adorned with Italian natural fabrics and embellished with antique pieces.
Named after the famous painter, Pablo Picasso, who stayed at the hotel for three leisurely months in 1917 when preparing to stage the first ever Cubist ballet, Suite Picasso boasts some of its namesake's precious lithographs, which can be admired in the suite's living area. The Suite is decorated with Papal yellows and purples, and features an exquisitely designed dining room with a marble table for six and a bar. The suite is located on the top floor of the hotel and its 25 square meters private terrace overlooks the hotel's beautiful Secret Garden.
The Nijinsky Suite is a remarkable home, dedicated to the famous dancer and choreographer, now the most prestigious and spacious suite in the hotel. The room decoration is modern and stylish, and the bathroom is reminiscent of the atmosphere in Roman thermal baths with precious marbles, mosaics and a Turkish bath. Apart from spacious bedroom, library, bar and dining room, there is also a modern equipped kitchen enabling guests to entertain for private or business meals. The 239 square metres suite is on the 6th floor of the hotel and enjoys a spectacular terrace overlooking the Villa Borghese, Secret Garden and the cityscape, furnished with comfortable wooden sun lounges, large teak tables for dining under the discreet and striking light of roman torches.
