馬拉喀什始建于公元1062年，位于摩洛哥西南部，坐落在貫穿摩洛哥的阿特拉斯山腳下，有“南方的珍珠”之稱。據(jù)說馬拉喀什在柏柏爾語中的意思是“上帝的故鄉(xiāng)”，但還有另外一個版本：在阿拉伯語中，馬拉喀什的意思是“紅顏色的”，是由于當年的城墻采用赭紅色巖石砌成，迄今仍保存完好。不光是城墻，尋常巷陌的房屋兩側，也大都刷成了赭紅色，沿著舊城區(qū)緩緩漫步，眼前的一切仿佛讓人置身于遙遠的中世紀時代。

Built in AD 1062， Marrakech was located in the southwest of Morocco at the foot of the Atlas Mountains， and was called the \"Southern Pearl\". It is said that Marrakech means \"God's hometown\" in the Berber language， but there is another version： in Arabic， Marrakech means \"color red\"， due to the walls of the red rock that are still well preserved today.
