One of the hotel's most outrageous guests is the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, who spent at least one month per year at Le Meurice since 1950, and he would always stay in Suite 102-103.
His behaviour could also be surrealistic: once he demanded that a herd of sheep be brought to his room, and upon their arrival, Dalí took out his pistol and shot at them. Luckily, the gun was filled with blank bullets. Another time, he requested a horse, and even a Harley Davidson. Yet another time, he asked the staff to capture flies for him in the Tuileries Garden, paying them five francs (around one euro) per fly.
Perhaps Dalí was bored at some point and he was testing the limit of the hotel. When all the eccentricities were accepted, he treated Le Meurice as his home. He became close to certain members of the staff, whom he would give autographed lithographs of his work as a Christmas tip.
Perhaps this explains the long process of cultural formation in Le Meurice. Until now, Dalí is still a deep influence in the hotel.
Through Dalí, the hotel has gained at least two gifts. The delicate desserts and ever-changing ice cream in the restaurant Le Dalí surprise every guest. Contemporary design master, Philippe Starck and his daughter Ara Starck have paid homage to Dalí through public space renovations in 2007 and 2016.
In the gorgeous and elegant lobby, people can see that the crystal chandelier has disappeared from the ceiling, but appeared at the entrance of revolving door instead; on the right side of the door is a two meter high snow frosted mirror (miroirgivré), with a stainless steel frame. With the surface covered in a thin layer of ice sand, guests can freely draw or to sign their names with fingers; the most popular items include the hand-painted soft cloth covering the ceiling of \"Le Dalí\" restaurant, along with 16 three-meter longlamps set up around the restaurant...... All these Stark-inventions have blended perfectly with the Louis XVI deco, turning it into a space of excitement and humor, without destroying the original architecture.
In Le Meurice, tradition, classic and elegance coexist with the youth, fashion and chic.
Le Meurice Paris is the first Parisian hotel to receive the title of \"Palace Hotel\", graded by French hotel industry, currently the highest recognition of hotel in France.
