        The efficient methods of English vocabulary learning

        Abstract:the importance of learning English vocabulary has been emphasized during recent years,however,the methods of English vocabulary learning nowadays lack efficiency and scientificity,resulting students mechanical memorization of English learning,more teaching efficiency should be found.

        Samuel;“vocabulary has significant influence in social communication since the production of language.” English linguist:Wilkins:“people cant communicate without vocabulary even with a solid knowledge of grammar;vocabulary plays the dominating role while the grammar is secondary in communication function.” Mastering and expanding the vocabulary is of great necessity and significance.but nowadays,students memorize the words with low efficiency,which impedes the development of academic achievement.

        The thesis intends to help students enlarge the vocabulary under the instruction and application of language acquisition theory and the memory psychology.

        Story-telling method

        The teaching interspersed with concise words and refined stories in order to have annotations and interpretations of the articles are easily mesmerized.

        In English teaching,the English words compiled in the stories should be classified in accordance with the prefix,suffix,rhythm pronunciation and morphological changes.Therefore,the paragraphs will become readable and innovative;students will maintain the learning interest and motivation in mastering the language,and promote the inspiration of abstraction thinking ability and the apprehension of the truth and noble minds,their imagination ability will be developed as well.

        The story-telling method is entertainingly efficient,which has full application in the English teaching,and students perspective will be broadened and consolidate the current knowledge structure simultaneously.

        Memorize the words:neighborhood,brotherhood;Childhood

        Once upon a time,a prosperous kingdom lived two intelligent and brave princes,they knew each other since their childhood(童年),they played with each other and fought together in the wartime,however,would their brotherhood(兄弟情義)be changed since they all had admiration towards Mary,the charming girl live in their neighborhood(鄰近)?

        Verse memory method

        The method should be characterized as having distinctive rhythm,refined language and orderly sentences.And the verses composed should catch the mesmerizing resources intrinsic characteristics,reflecting the most essential and fundamental similarities or differences of the English words.

        Example:The government will punish the corrupt(腐?。?,announcing them have to go bankrupt(破產(chǎn)),otherwise,peoples life will be disrupted(破壞)

        Notes –Making memory

        Making notes can have a good understanding of the knowledge,because students need to understand the whole content first,organize the resources,classify the memory images and reveal the potential memory blank;therefore,students can develop a profound understanding of the content by taking notes.

        Taking notes can also help prevent students from forgetting the learning content,students who take notes should make full use of tactile memory like writing and drawing on the basis of the traditional memory methods,for example,reading and reciting.Thus the memory will be consolidated and strengthened;the short term memory can develop into long term memory in the cortex.

        Write down the English words which are easily forgettable in the cards,look them over repeatedly in the spare time.so that students can memorize the words conveniently and efficiently,the vague memory will become clear,the memory effect will be strengthened,beneficial to the development of creatively logical thinking ability and the restructuring ability of the stored information.

        In addition,the outline,index,footnotes and comments kept in the notebook should be read as well in order to deepen the understanding and have a comprehensive summarization of the knowledge.

        Regular repetition

        Forgetting words is unavoidable,which is the stumbling block of English learning.According to the psychologically experimental study,the process of forgetting is unbalanced,which begins quickly and then slow down gradually.Psychologists indicate the phenomenon happens when the memory traces fades instead of being strengthened in the cerebral cortex.so repetition is necessary in memorization.

        (1)The regulations of information repeat input

        The lasting time of maintained memory will be changed with different time periods repeat input,thus the time gap should be regular and match with the memorization rules,the repetition of information should first be frequent and then carry out in a sparse way.

        Learners should review the words or paragraphs in the first,second,fourth,seventh,fourteenth,twenty-eighth day after memorization in accordance with the Ebbinghauss memory curve.

        (2)Repeat memorization should happen in various contests

        The repetition of information should take place in different contexts,giving the brains stronger stimulus,use the words flexibly,and improve comprehension ability.

        (3)Moderation of memorizing content

        The amount of memorized words or paragraphs should be moderate,the limit of capacity and quantity should match with different learners ‘memory characteristics and capacity.Otherwise,students will lose interest in English learning and have no internal motivation on long term learning.
