An Unlucky Thief
It didn't rain for months and most crops were withered(枯萎). The harvests were bad and when spring came, few people had enough food.
Mr and Mrs Taylor were hungry for days. The old man found a beautiful jacket in the box. He bought it before he married. He didn't wear it after that. He had to sell it in the market and bought some rice for his family.
Jack, a young man of twenty, was told to buy some rice in the market, too. He found his jacket was worn-out. And he could not go to meet his girl friend in such broken clothes. He bought the jacket and wore it at once. But soon he felt sorry. His parents were hungry and waited for the rice. He returned to the market, but he found Mr Taylor had bought some rice with the money. He thought for a while and followed the old man until he went in his house.
That evening, when the Taylors went to bed, Jack wore a mask(面罩)on his face and slipped into(潛入) the room and began to look for the rice. Later on he found it was in a box.
