think, consider,regard和 take 這四個詞都有“認為”“把……看做”之意,都可用于it作形式賓語的句式,但它們在具體含義和其他固定搭配上有所不同。

think

think是較常用的詞,指“思考后形成某種想法或念頭”;多用于“think (to be) +形容詞/名詞”結構,或者后跟從句。

例1Money is thought (to be) the root cause of all evils. 金錢被認為是萬惡之源。

例2I thought him too young for the position. 我認為他太年輕,不太適合那個職位。

例3Do you think (that) he has quite a good chance of getting the job? 你認為他有機會得到那份工作嗎?

例4She thought it her duty to take care of the orphans. 她認為照顧那些孤兒是她的職責。(it為形式賓語)

consider

consider強調“經(jīng)過深思熟慮后得出某一結論”,比較正式;可用于“consider sb./sth. (as/to be) +名詞/形容詞”結構,或者后跟從句。consider sb. to have done sth. 意為“認為某人已經(jīng)做了某事”。

例5They consider Hansen (as/

to be) the cleverest boy in their class. 他們認為漢森是他們班上最聰明的男生。

例6They considered the plan as reasonable. 他們認為這個計劃是合理的。

例7We all consider her to have done wonderfully in the English contest. 我們都認為她在英語競賽中表現(xiàn)得非常出色。

例9Do you consider it wise to interfere in their marriage? 你覺得干預他們的婚姻是明智之舉嗎? (it為形式賓語)

regard

regard側重指“依眼睛所見而作評判”,多用于表示“對外表的判斷”或“認為某人或某事具有某種特質”;一般與as連用,后面不能跟從句。

例10He regarded his wife as a beauty, though others found her plain. 他認為他的妻子是美女,盡管別人認為她長得很一般。

例11The dove is generally regarded as the symbol of peace. 鴿子常被看做是和平的象征。

例12Do you regard it as necessary I should come? 你認為我有必要來嗎?(it為形式賓語)

take

take比較口語化,常與as/for連用,或后跟to be結構。與as連用相當于regard...as,表示一般的“看做,認為”;與for連用有“錯看某人或某物”的意思。take意為“認為”時,后不跟從句。

例13Will you take me as your co-operator?你能把我看做是你的搭檔嗎?

例14We took him to be an honest man. 我們當他是個誠實的人。

例15He took your smile for agreement. 他錯把你的微笑視為同意了。

例16I take it that we are to come early. 我以為我們要早來。(it為形式賓語)
