American and Pakistani intelligence confimed that a major terrorist attack that took place on the 21st of September was \"almost certainly\" the work of the Al-Qaeda network. A van full of 600 kg of explosives was driven by a suicide bomber into the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. Although guards stopped the van at the gate, the detonation badly damaged the hotel, killing 53 people and wounding over 250.

Some foreigners are already leaving the country in fear of their lives.
