學(xué)了多年英語還會犯一些極其“簡單”的錯誤，那是因為不了解英美國家的語言習(xí)慣。

從爬樓梯講起。中國的樓層順序基本都是從一層排起，一直到最頂層。帶有地下室的建筑，則從地下一層往下排列。然而，美國和英國也是如此嗎？

中英美三國對地下室的稱呼是相同的：

the 1st basement地下一層

the 2nd basement地下二層

小心！中英美三國對地上樓層的稱呼是不同的。我們應(yīng)該注意上下文發(fā)生的國家，或作者的國籍。

然而，再往上走大家就要注意了，否則就有可能爬錯樓層。

美國和中國的樓層順序是一樣的，從1往上排列。

英國則把一層稱為the ground floor，二層稱為the 1st floor，依次類推。

建筑的頂層則都可以稱為the top floor。

英國人表達第一層樓通常說 the ground floor， 美國人則說the first floor;

英國人表達第二層樓通常說the first floor， 美國人則說the second floor。

以此類推，美國人說高于二層以上的建筑時要比英國人多一層。比如：大廈二層設(shè)有一個捐款箱。

英國人這樣說：There is a donation box on the first floor of the building.

美國人這樣說：There is a donation box on the second floor of the building.

英美兩國對樓層數(shù)目的不同表達

英國人表述“樓層數(shù)目”通常用storey， 美國人則用story。

比如表達中文意思中的二十層樓：

英國人這么說：a building of 20 storeys或者a 20-storey building

美國人這么說：a building of 20 stories或a 20-story building。

如果說在第幾層，英國人通常只說on… floor，而美國人還可以說in… story。

例句：那棟18層高樓的第16層失火了，然而那層居然沒有滅火器。消防隊員不得不從其它樓層取水。

英國人這么說：

The 15th floor of the 18-storey building was on fire and there was no fire extinguisher on that floor. The firefighters had to take water from other floors.

美國人這么說：

The 16th floor of the 18-storey building was on fire and there was no fire extinguisher on that floor. The firefighters had to take water from other floors.

TIPS:

我國香港由于歷史原因受英國英語影響較深，因此按照英式英語的語言習(xí)慣。澳大利亞等英聯(lián)邦國家也是如此。

據(jù)《圣經(jīng)#8226;新約#8226;馬可福音》中記載，在最后的晚餐時耶穌被第13個門徒猶大出賣。此外，絞刑架的斷頭臺也有13級臺階。因此基督徒認為13是個不吉利的數(shù)字。不僅是樓層，座位號乃至門牌號等都會跳過這個數(shù)字，用12A表示12，13則用12B或者14A來表示。
