Violet is a 9 -year -old little girl.She recently1 got taught about volcanoesin school， and she would like tosee one of them up close. That day，when Violet was leaving school， she puther hand in her pocket2 to take out thehouse keys， but suddenly3 the keys fellout of her hand and fell into a hole！

No matter4 how much Violet triedto get her key out of the hole， shecouldn’t！ A strange5 sound could beheard from inside the hole. Violet gotscared and quickly ran away！ But thewhole night， she was thinking about thesound she heard from that hole.

The next day， Violet was goinghome from school with her friendHannah. The apple in Hannah’shands fell into the hole when theyarrived at the hole. Hannah bent6down to pick up the apple， but Violetshouted， “Not！ Do not get close tothat hole！ It is a volcano！ ”“Whatare you saying？ A volcano must be abig mountain！ But this is only a littlehole！ ”Hannah said in surprise.

Violet was afraid and said，“Well， maybe this is a child volcanoand has not grown up yet！ ”Hannahsaid， “Where do you know？”Violetreplied， “Because yesterday heswallowed7 my keys and when Iwanted to take them off， I heard astrange sound！ ”

Hannah， who couldn’t believe8Violet’s words， bent down to pickup her apple， but suddenly sheheard the strange sound thatViolet had said. They ran awayand thought about how to savethe city from this dangerous9volcano. How should they notlet that volcano grow big？

The next day in science class，Violet and Hanna decided to ask theirteacher some questions about volcanoes：How does a volcano form？ How todestroy10 a volcano？ How to take careof a volcano？ How to bury11 a volcanoin the middle of the street？ Theirteacher was surprised by thesequestions; she didn’t know the answerto many of them.

After school， Hanna and Violetwent back to their little volcano andnoticed that the hole was bigger thanthe day before！ Hannah and Violet，who were very scared， went home asfast as they could.

At dinner， Violet asked her bigbrother， “What will you do if you findout that a volcano is growing in thestreet？”Violet’s brother， who did notbelieve her words， said with a laugh，“Iwill blow it， so it goes out！ ”Violet，who was angry12， said， “I am notkidding13！ I do not know！ Maybe I’llcall the fire department14！ ”

The next day， Violet and Hannadecided to go to the city fire station. Nomatter how hard they tried， they could notmake the firefighters15 believe that avolcano had appeared16 on the street！ Butone of the firemen agreed17 to go with themandseethelittlevolcano.

When they got to the hole， they saw ithad become bigger， and water was runningout of it！ Hannah and Violet shouted“， Thevolcano has erupted18！ ”And then they hid19 behind the fireman！ But the firemansaid with a laugh， “Do not be scared！ Thisis not a volcano！ The water pipe20 isbroken！ But you did a great help to thecity with this good work！ I will work it outvery quickly now！ Don’t worry at all！ ”

Hannah and Violet looked at eachother. Violet said to Hanna， “I think youwere right！ Volcanoes are in the mountains，not holes in the middle of thestreet！ ”

放學(xué)后，漢娜和維奧萊特回到她們的小火山那兒，然后注意到這個(gè)洞比前一天更大了！漢娜和維奧萊特非常害怕，以最快的速度回家了。

吃飯的時(shí)候，維奧萊特問(wèn)她哥哥：“如果你發(fā)現(xiàn)街上有座火山在變大，你會(huì)怎么做？”維奧萊特的哥哥不相信她的話，笑著說(shuō)：“我會(huì)吹口氣，然后它就熄了！”生氣的維奧萊特說(shuō)：“我不是在開(kāi)玩笑！我不知道怎么辦！也許我應(yīng)該給消防部門打電話！”

第二天，維奧萊特和漢娜決定去市消防局。無(wú)論她們?cè)趺磁Χ紵o(wú)法讓消防員們相信街上出現(xiàn)了火山。但有一個(gè)消防隊(duì)員同意和她們一起去看看那個(gè)“小火山”。

當(dāng)她們到達(dá)那個(gè)洞口時(shí)，發(fā)現(xiàn)洞口越來(lái)越大，水正從洞里流出來(lái)。漢娜和維奧萊特喊道：“火山爆發(fā)了！”然后她們就躲到消防員身后。消防員大笑著說(shuō)：“不要害怕！這不是火山！是水管破了！但是你們做了一件好事，對(duì)這個(gè)城市有很大的幫助！現(xiàn)在我會(huì)很快解決它！一點(diǎn)都不用擔(dān)心！”

漢娜和維奧萊特面面相覷。維奧萊特對(duì)漢娜說(shuō)：“我想你是對(duì)的！火山只會(huì)在大山里，不會(huì)是街中間的一個(gè)洞！”
