These large buildings are in round(圓形) or square(長方形) shapes.
Fujian Tulou are made of clay(黏土,陶土) and rocks. 這些材料天然又環(huán)保,居住在里面很舒服。The second floor is used as(被用作) a granary(谷倉). The third and fourth floors are used as bedrooms. 土樓的中心是公用場地,有水井和廚房。

福建土樓是在宋、元時期由客家人建造的。公元十世紀,中原戰(zhàn)亂紛起,很多人從黃河流域遷徙到我國東南部山地丘陵地帶,這些人被稱作“客家人”。人口壓力使這些客家人和周圍的人經(jīng)常產(chǎn)生沖突,因此他們建造了這種土樓,這樣的設(shè)計既能防御敵人又適宜居住。
These stilt houses are home to the Tujia people(土家族). The highest Tujia stilt house is in Hunan.
People put farm tools(農(nóng)具) and hay(干草) on the first floor. Some Tujia families raise(飼養(yǎng)) Livestocks(家畜), such as pigs and goats.
The bedrooms are on the second floor. They also put some grain(糧食) on this floor.
On the top floor, Tujia girls embroider(繡花) and study here.

Why do they build these kind of houses?
這與當?shù)氐臍夂蛴嘘P(guān)。大多數(shù)土家族人生活在我國南部的湖南和湖北地區(qū)。The weather there is humid(潮濕的) and is often hot in summer. 住在高一些的房子里會讓人感到?jīng)鏊?、舒適。除此之外,更高的房子可以保護人們躲避洪水和危險動物(比如蛇或蜘蛛)的傷害。
