If the day is done,

if birds sing no more,

if the wind has flagged tired,

then draw the veil of darkness thick upon me,

even as thou hast wrapt the earth

with the coverlet of sleep

and tenderly closed the petals

of the drooping lotus at dusk.

假如時(shí)光已逝，

鳥(niǎo)兒不再歌唱，

風(fēng)兒也吹倦了，

那就用黑暗的厚幕把我蓋上，

如同黃昏時(shí)節(jié)你用睡眠的衾被裹住大地，

又輕輕合上睡蓮的花瓣。

From the traveler,

whose sack of provisions is empty

before the voyage is ended,

whose garment is torn and dust-laden,

whose strength is exhausted,

remove shame and poverty,

and renew his life like a flower

under the cover of thy kindly night.

路途未完，

行囊已空,

衣裳破裂污損，

人已精疲力竭。

你驅(qū)散了旅客的羞愧和困窘，

使他在你仁慈的夜幕下，

如花朵般煥發(fā)生機(jī)。

拉賓德拉納特·泰戈?duì)枺≧abindranath Tagore,1861—1941），印度詩(shī)人、文學(xué)家、社會(huì)活動(dòng)家、哲學(xué)家和印度民族主義者。1913 年，他以《吉檀迦利》成為第一個(gè)獲得諾貝爾文學(xué)獎(jiǎng)的亞洲人，其代表作有《吉檀迦利》《飛鳥(niǎo)集》《眼中沙》等。
