Sherlock Holmes is one of the most famous detectives in the world. In this story， Holmes meets his greatest enemy， Professor Moriarty.

Holmes was worried because he knew that Professor Moriarty wanted to kill him. He told Dr. Watson to meet him at the railway station the next day for a journey.

The next day， when Watson arrived at the railway station， he could not see Holmes. Watson decided to get on the train and the only other person in his carriage was an old priest. The priest took off his hat and Watson realized he was Holmes in disguise（偽裝）.

Moriarty had not been fooled. He had followed Watson instead of Holmes. Luckily for Holmes， Moriarty was not quick enough to catch the train， but Holmes knew that his enemy would soon follow.

Holmes and Waston left England and escaped（逃脫） to Switzerland. There， they heard the good news that Moriartys gang（一伙） had been arrested in England. However， they were disappointed to hear that Moriarty had escaped.

In Switzerland， Holmes and Watson took a walk to the famous Reichenbach Falls. A boy gave Watson a note， saying that an English woman staying nearby was very ill and needed a doctor. So Watson went to treat the woman.

There was no sick woman. Watson had been tricked by Moriarty who wanted to get Holmes on his own. Watson rushed back to the Falls. He found a note from Holmes saying that he was going to fight against Moriarty. He knew that the note was another trick. Watson saw two sets of footprints leading to the edge of the Falls. There were signs that a violent struggle had taken place.
