The first intuitive idea for the project…
In surroundings composed mainly of vertical buildings appears our tower, growing upwards like the spanish ‘castellars’. The building opens itself to the urban landscape by its form.
Starting from the image of a pine tree forest, the building transforms itself with the idea of vertical density and gently starts to disappear into the sky through its reflectivity.
Photomontages and drawing fragments, have a great importance in the representation of the Taichung Tower, in a early phase these collages helped to understand the figure of the tower and its relation to the context of the project. We started studying how the facade concept could be connected with the main ideas for the project.
The beginning of the dialogue between thouht and construction…
One continuos appearance, one material and a relationship to vegetation, a facade base don Monterrey cypress was developed.
The facade treatment uses a series of large windows making it attractive for nearby views. The tower acquires a different ‘shape’ every morning and every night. This effect is posible by the materials that are used a facade made of stainless steel mullions, glass, printed glass, reflective glass and stainless steel louvers.
At the basement an unique public space was developed, which lowers the construction to the ground, to forma an urban landscape in different dimensions. The new public urban planning prioritizes the pedestrians and tries to bring the public fluidy to the space, so that it becomes alive. In the ground floor level some leisure situations appear, always combined with the presence of green and tres, trying to reproduce a natural scenery, so that the pedestrians get the sensation that they are in constant contact with nature.
