A majority ofAmericans said they would not want their children to become teachers.
Yet teachers everywhere say that if only the American people—the parent and thevoter—really understood schools and teachers, they'd join the topic.
Some people think teachers“sit aroundall summer, collecting apaycheck”.Lawson,a full-time teacher, complains it's not him.In addition toworking in both the beforeschool and after-school programs,he teaches in summer school. And last summer he took onextrahours at another place.
Lawson can do everything. He moves from room to room, teaching a class or organizing a lesson plan for a short-term group or giving students special help with math.He visits homes with the school social worker. He directs traffic in the parking lot.He once used the washing machine in his office to clean the coats of an entire class so he wouldn'tembarrassthe one kid whose coat was dirty.
Despiteit all or maybe because of it,he voices a view made by every teacher with whom a USA TODAY network team spent the day:He loves his job.“I wouldn't like to go anywhere else. When you help the kid that really wants to learn, when the kid says,‘I got it,’that's something you take with in the rest of your life.”

1.A majority of Americans said they would not want their children to become teachers.
want sb.to do sth.
2.He moves from room to room, teaching a class or organizing a lesson plan for a shortterm group or giving students special help with math.
3.He once used the washing machine in his office to clean the coats of an entire class so he wouldn't embarrass the one kid whose coat was dirty.
4.When you help the kid that really wants to learn...
