New Mexico is a place for diverse12 cultures. Its earliest settlers were Pueblo Indians； the Spanish came in the late 1600s. The Wild West never really left Albuquerque. Thus， New Mexico has one of the largest Native American populations in the United States. The American government has special policies to protect Native Americans.
