Number One:Newcastle

Newcastle is a bright,fastpaced city with spectacular nightlife.

Grainger Town is the historic center of the city,featuring impressive Georgian architecture,but,for excitement,the quayside is the place to be.This modern complex of restaurants,galleries,bars,and other places of entertainment has replaced the old dockyards,and overlooks the Tyne River.If you're in Newcastle in October,you can grab a few laughs at Newcastle's world famous comedy festival.

As one of the most famous university towns in the world,Cambridge is the tranquil and compact,and easy on the walking traveler.It has only one main street lined with lots of unusual and interesting shops for the creative mind.One of the best ways to see the parade of colleges in Cambridge is from a punt—one of those little,flat-bottomed boats you see people poling down the Cambridge River.

劍 橋

Number Three:York

York is the flagship city of the north,with over two thousand years of stories to tell.Its city walls and spider-web of narrow,medieval streets make it a unique place to wander around and discover.

The Merchant Adventurer's Hall,an original medieval town hall,built in about 1360,is surrounded by unusual shops.In nearby Jorvik(the Viking name for“York”)there is a restored Viking settlement with state-of-the-art exhibits on all Viking things.The Shambles,a set of medieval streets,gives you an up-close look at what neighborhoods were like in the Middle Ages.And no visitor to York should neglect to check out the darkness of the York Dungeons!

約克是英格蘭北部最為重要的城市,具有兩千多年的歷史。狹窄的中世紀街道像蜘蛛網一樣,兩邊城墻環(huán)繞,使得約克成為一個風格獨特的地方。人們可以盡情徜徉其間,有所發(fā)現。

Number Four:London

Everyone has heard of London,and everyone needs to see London.Here's a place full of elegance and grime and splendor and frenzy—one of the most interesting places in the world to visit.

What can't be missed are Big Ben,the parliament buildings,Buckingham Palace,Westminster Abbey (a truly glorious cathedral),Piccadilly Circus,Soho,Covent Garden,and the British Airways London Eye,the biggest Ferris wheel in the world,formerly known as the Millennium Wheel.

Culture vultures have scores of museums and galleries at their disposal.And,of course,you can't go to London without spending an evening at an authentic London pub.

倫 敦

人人都知道倫敦,人人都想看倫敦。這里既有高雅的店堂,又有污穢的街市；既有壯麗的景觀,又有瘋狂的人群。它是世界上最有趣的旅游勝地之一。

千萬不要錯過大本鐘、議會大廈的建筑、白金漢宮、威斯敏斯特修道院(一座真正輝煌的大教堂)、皮卡迪利廣場、索弧、考文特花園和英航倫敦眼——世界上最大的觀光摩天輪,原來被稱作“午禧摩天輪”。

對文化獵奇者而言,數十座博物館和美術館可以任由他們觀賞。當然,到倫敦,沒有人不去地道的倫敦酒吧泡上一個晚上的。
