        The Serras, on Passeig Colom, faces the Mediterranean harbor in one of Barcelona's most prestigious Old Town Gothic Quarter. Although this 28-room hotel was only born in 2015, it is the first five-star hotel in Barcelona's seaside area. Its trendy, clean and tasteful design brings a new dimension to the Barcelona hotels.

        Jodi Serra, founder of the hotel, was once a successful businessman and enjoys traveling around for a pleasant weekend. After retirement, this happy entrepreneur did not choose to settle down, but decided to use his work to create happiness for more people - to open a unique luxury hotel. When his son discovered the 19th-century Gothic building by the sea, Mr. Serra bought it immediately.

        The Gothic Quarter is famous for its ancient Gothic architecture, and the building where The Serras is housed was designed by the famous Spanish architect Francesc Daniel Molina in 1846. His Barcelona Royal Plaza is now the world-famous travel destination. When building the hotel, the fa?ade of the building was well preserved, so as to respect the master. More than that, during the renovation of the building, architects dug up an ancient dock site dating back to the first to fifth centuries AD, the first evidence in history to prove the starting point of the city of Barcelona. The construction of the hotel has unintentionally solved the mystery that puzzled historians for centuries.

        塞洛斯酒店的前身,正是畢加索少年時期的第一個畫室。

        1896年,只有15歲的畢加索在這棟建筑頂部的閣樓開始了他的繪畫生涯,處于他創(chuàng)作的“藍(lán)色時期”,在這里,畢加索完成了著名的“科學(xué)與慈善”和其它幾幅重要畫作,如今,它們正懸掛于酒店不遠(yuǎn)處的畢加索博物館中。

        設(shè)計師并沒有用畢加索畫作的元素來設(shè)計酒店,而是以更宜居住和思考的風(fēng)格,讓賓客能夠擁有自己獨一無二的感受,這番沉靜的設(shè)計,反而把最為真實原始的畢加索痕跡突顯了出來,那就是畢加索的視角下,同樣的窗外風(fēng)景。

        Sunshine radiating through the glass hall into the lobby, in it sits the dark yellow and green velvet sofa, both elegant and quiet. The black and gold metal lines give space a sense of geometric hierarchy, and the large strains of pink hydrangea bouquet adds a touch of softness. Just the lobby has given out many of the designer's thoughts with full and orderly color, in addition to the Mediterranean harbor style, such is the tribute to the genius painter Picasso.

        The predecessor of The Serras, is Picasso's first studio as a teenager.

        In 1896, 15-year-old Picasso began his painting career in the loft on the top of the building, and he was at his so-called \"Blue Age\". Here Picasso completed the famous \"Science and Charity\" and several other important paintings, which are now hanging in the Picasso Museum not far from the hotel.

        After some scrutiny, the hotel founder eventually invited Eva Martinez to do interiors design for his hotel. One of the hottest interior designers in Spain today, Eva embraces eclectic and balanced designs that combine different elements to create a cozy, warm space. In the face of the challenge of \"designing Picasso's studio as a boutique hotel,\" her presentation is both rational and splendid.

        Unlike most luxury hotels in Barcelona with exaggerated flashy design, Eva uses a low-key color tone and slick materials to define the \"luxury\" of The Serras. She uses a large area of windows, natural light and transparent fa?ade to create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, both contemporary New York style and a return to the Catalonia romantic classics. The rooms are black and white in color, elegant and refreshing, with a huge headboard sending in the Mediterranean atmosphere, while the print above is an abstraction of the local architectural bricks, symbolizing Barcelona's \"Modernism\" period. In the interiors of the rooms, the use of large quantities of metal and wood is a reminder of the local industrial history.

        Even with black and white and metal as the main elements of design, it doesn’t feel chilled in the room. Double large floor to ceiling windows block both noise and light, the area is not so large but feels spacious and private. Soft linen and mustard yellow seat add more warmth, and the mattress used is Queen Elizabeth II's designated brand, \"can not help oneself but to sink deep in it\" can be the appropriate expression. Not far from the end of the bed is an independent boat-like bathtub, also the soul of the design. The bathtub faces the dock scenery of Port Vell, and soaking inside is like lying in a boat driving straight to the blue ocean......

        Instead of designing the hotel with elements of Picasso's paintings, she uses a more livable and thought-provoking style, so that the guests can have their own unique feeling. This subtle design has presented the most authentic and original Picasso traces, that is Picasso's perspective, the same scenery by the window.

        The hotel's restaurant, Informal, is run by Michelin chef Marc Gascons and serves typical Catalan food. Like the restaurant's name \"informal\" (daily, casual), the food here also feels younger and casual, using only locally sourced ingredients to make something delicious to share. The restaurant is simple and rustic in design, suitable for enjoying daily and exquisite dinners with friends.

        Picasso's loft for painting was transformed into the hotel's social rooftop, with an infinity pool and tapas bar. Mr. Serra said: \"I want to bring in the hotel experience I really enjoy here, and I also hope to create something I did not find.I like the southern sunshine, so I like a roof that can be bathed in the sunshine. With swimming pool, wine and good food, this is what I think is the real luxury. \"

        A ramp extending from the magnificent stonework gate leads to the hotel lobby, bringing guests from the bustling Passeig de Gracia to an incredible modern space. Three white walls surrounding the ramp connection enveloped and formed the entrance, its hollowed out cube space connecting the internal space, signifying a three-dimensional vibe. The predecessor of a building is the headquarters of a bank. After the design of Patricia Urquiola, the building inherits the fusion of Mandarin Oriental modernism and the orient aesthetics, added with native Spanish colors and the designer's personal philosophy.

        Like many other industries, the field of architectural design has long been dominated by men, and Patricia Urquiola's rise has given recognition to a wide range of women designers working in the construction industry. Born in Oviedo, Spain, Patricia is interested in architecture since childhood. She studied architectural design in Madrid and Italy, and studied under master designer, Achille Castiglioni. Patricia founded his own studio in Milan in 2001. Her design never rigidly adheres to a particular style, but utilizes different media and different materials in all fields such as furniture, lighting, architecture, interior, etc. She is good at combining hand-made craft and industrial design, to come up with works with functionality and practicality, but also full of beauty and poetics.

        Patricia, the \"mashup queen\" in the design world, receives Italy's rigorous and innovative academic influence on the one hand, and is also rooted in Spain's passionate and sensitive descent on the other hand. Her designs are always intertwined in two countries at the same time, meticulous yet romantic. Mandarin Oriental Barcelona can be said to be her most representative design model.

        Walking through the edgeless black ramp with floral patterns to the living-room lobby, an elegant and relaxed atmosphere welcomes the guests: large grayish white sofa under warm yellow light, hollow design screen, the paintings and decorations of the oriental elements. As the details of the interior gradually unfold, Patricia Urquiola's design language has also been fondly remembered.

        Every piece of furniture and artwork in the hotel has been personally designed by Patricia and is co-produced with renowned design houses such as BB Italia, DePadova, Flos and Moroso. From the armchairs at the Moments restaurant to the Chesfield sofas in the lobby, from the handcrafted Scottish tweed rugs from the Banker bar to the classic 20th-century French wood table in the center of Blanc, everything is selected by the designer so that each space can best present its own personality.

        位于大堂下方的Blanc餐廳,是酒店整體設(shè)計的精華所在。懸掛于上方的金屬網(wǎng)格結(jié)構(gòu)從視覺上將空間一分為二,陽光透過頂部的大片天窗穿過網(wǎng)格將圖案映射在墻上,拔高的綠色植物一直伸到上方,使得整個餐廳猶如垂直于一片空中花園之下。

        而酒店也確確實實在其中打造了一片花園——Mimosa Garden,由Patricia和景觀設(shè)計師 Bet Figueras共同合作,將一片足有660平的花園空間完美嵌入酒店內(nèi)部。浪漫多姿的含羞草和豐富的室外植物種植其中,特別設(shè)計的編繩椅子充滿田園氣息,為住進(jìn)來的客人提供了一處私密的自然空間。

        Blanc餐廳兩側(cè)分別為Banker's Bar 和 Moments餐廳,Patricia巧妙地把酒店的銀行背景運(yùn)用到設(shè)計當(dāng)中,將先前銀行廢棄的保險箱懸于酒店Banker's Bar的天花板和墻上,燈光映射在上面形成獨特又別具裝飾性的區(qū)域。Moments餐廳以金色和琥珀色為主色調(diào),頂部三面小型穹頂與下方的地毯印有相同的圖案并平行重合,可見Patricia對設(shè)計細(xì)節(jié)的巧思與玩味。

        The Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona is Patricia's first interior space with such intricacies, completed with stunning design integrity and fluidity. The 120 guest rooms and suites continue the white tone of the hotel. The use of dark gray, green fabrics and log walls not only make the space elegant and modern, but also provide a lively atmosphere. The spacious balcony bathes the entire room in the Mediterranean Sunshine. Light gray dandelion printed wallpaper, traditional Chinese drawers inspired wardrobe and military hat-shaped vase, the mysterious Oriental element is truly shining here. Beautifully sleek seats and beige carpets add sophistication to the space, and are neutralized with large areas of white, the overall design is modern and natural, clear and balanced.

        Blanc, located below the lobby, is the essence of the overall design of the hotel. The metal grid structure suspended above visually divides the space into two. The sun shines through the grid through the large skylights at the top of the grid and maps the pattern onto the wall. The tall green plants extend to the top, as if the entire restaurant sits underneath a vertical sky garden.

        And the hotel indeed built a garden called- Mimosa Garden, co-created by Patricia and her landscape architect Bet Figueras. They work together to fit a perfect 660-foot garden into the hotel space. Romantic mimosa and rich outdoor plants are richly planted, specially designed rope chair is full of pastoral atmosphere, providing a secret natural space for the staying guests.

        On both sides of Blanc are Banker's Bar and Moments restaurants, and Patricia cleverly applied the hotel's banking background to the design, by hanging the previously abandoned safe on the ceiling and walls of the hotel's Banker's Bar, which formed a unique decorative area with the lighting on it. Moments restaurant is decorated with gold and amber-based colors, the top three small dome and the bottom of the carpet are printed with the same paralleled pattern, showing the ingenuity of the design.

        HOTEL ELITE: As a busy woman designer, how do you handle the relationship between work and family?

        Patricia Urquiola: I’ve been trying to break the connection between my work,my family,my private life. I always try to discuss with my husband to find a place where we can live and work together, like the Italian idea of “casa e bottega”, to have a studio downstairs and a house upstairs, if possible, a garden will be great.
