01. Silk Road Fund, General Electric set up energy infrastructure investment platform

November 10, 2017 (Xinhua) — The fund and GE Energy Financial Services signed a deal to create an energy infrastructure investment platform. The two sides will make joint investment in infrastructure projects in the fields of power grid, new energy, and oil and gas, in countries and regions along the Belt and Road. The cooperation between the Silk Road Fund and GE will not only boost cooperation between high-end manufacturing companies from China and the US, but also promote economic development of the regions where their investment goes.

02. Spending climbs by 39% on this year’s Singles Day

November 11, 2017 (China Daily) — Bargain hunters splurged by spending a record of RMB 168.2 billion yuan (US$25.3 billion) during this year’s Singles Day, the world’s largest daylong discount gala, as E-commerce giant Alibaba Group took the online shopping spree to brick-and-mortar stores and beyond the nation’s borders, banking on China’s technological prowess. Spending surged 39.3% during 2017’s sale —the ninth iteration of the event — as consumers from 225 countries and regions scooped up goods that included apparel, mobile phones and motor vehicles from 140,000 brands that offered promotions during the annual jamboree.

03. Xi draws grand picture for Asia-Pacific development

November 11, 2017 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit put forward a four-point proposal for the region to achieve greater development amid a profoundly changing global economy. At the event held in Da Nang, Vietnam, Xi also shared China’s blueprint for the country’s new era of more sustainable economic growth,formulated at the 19thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

04. World Bank member eyes new climate-smart investments in China

November 13, 2017 (China Daily) — International Finance Corp (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking new climate-smart investment opportunities in China while exploring approaches to further expand these markets.China has become a major driver in global growth of demand for climate-smart technologies with large economic and environmental benefits of climate-smart projects that range from renewable, energy efficiency, water management,and waste management to energy storage. Since 2005,IFC has invested US$ 18.3 billion of its own funds in longterm financing for climate-smart projects and mobilized an additional US$ 11 billion from other investors.

05. Regional cooperation on agenda for Premier Li’s Philippines trip

November 13, 2017 (Xinhua) — Cooperation in East Asia and regional economic partnership will be high on the agenda for Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s Philippines trip. As the first visit to the Philippines by a Chinese premier in 10 years, Li’s trip is seen as an important move regarding bilateral ties.The two countries were expected to exchange views and sign cooperation documents on infrastructure, industrial zones and aid to the Philippines, to further promote bilateral comprehensive cooperation.

06. ASEAN expects to increase exchange and cooperation with China

November 14, 2017 (China Daily) — The 2017 Tuole Forum on “China-ASEAN International Production Capacity Cooperation” was held on November 9, 2017. At the forum,ambassadors and diplomats from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia,Laos, Singapore and other ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries said they expected to deepen China-ASEAN exchanges and cooperation so as to achieve winwin results in the production of capacity investment, highlandfeatured tourism, and energy and building materials.

07. China’s JD.com invited to attend Thailand’s E-commerce week

November 15, 2017 (Xinhua) — Thailand’s digital economy body is inviting China’s E-commerce giant JD.com, also known as Jingdong, to the country’s incoming E-commerce week. Since JD.com has set sights on making Thailand a major hub for his E-commerce expansion plan in Southeast Asia, JD.com wants to impart E-commerce techniques, digital business branding and digital marketing to local E-commerce businesses. JD.com recently reached agreement with Thailand’s Central Group to form a US$ 500 million joint venture in E-commerce and fi nancial technology.

08. Laos warmly greets Xi in first state visit

November 17, 2017 (China Daily) — China and Laos agreed to jointly build the Belt and Road and enhance cooperation on multiple issues, including agriculture, during President Xi Jinping’s state visit. Xi, who was given an enthusiastic reception in the Laotian capital of Vientiane, is on his first state visit to Laos since becoming president in March 2013.The two countries agreed to connect the China-proposed the Belt and Road Initiative with the Laotian strategy of making a landlocked nation into a country with many connections.
