About Hatchet

In this term, I read a book called Hatchet published by Simon and Schuster in 1987. The author is Gary Paulsen. This adventure story is highly recommended for children aged twelve and up. It is about a boy called Brian who lived in a forest alone for 56 days.

This story is set in a big forest in the south of Canada. The main character—Brian—is lost in a forest after a crash leaves his pilot dead and their plane destroyed. There are also many other characters, such as his mom, dad and two pilots.

Brian was an active boy. He did not worry about his life while he was in the wood. He stayed optimistic and believed that he would be rescued. Because of this kind of spirit, he survived. He was also a very independent boy. He made some food for himself and made some things to beat his animal enemies.

There are many exciting moments in the story. For example, one day, Brian was flying to his dad’s home by plane. He was sitting in the copilot[副駕駛員]seat.When the plane was flying, the pilot had a heart attack and it killed him at once.Brian controlled the plane all by himself. At last, He landed the plane in a lake.

The writing style of this book is really good. I find it inspiring. It not only often makes me happy, but also often encourages me to do things very carefully. I learn “keep-going” spirit and the “never-give-up” spirit from it. I think it is really interesting and moving.

However, this book also has some disadvantages. The story in it is actually not that realistic[現(xiàn)實的]. What’s more, the story is a little bit short, so it cannot describe the fantastic and amazing plot in very much detail.

Finally, this book is my first English book. I think I will always remember the spirit in it. Thank you, Hatchet.

I must commend[稱贊]this review’s focus on Brian’s hopeful attitude and his unwillingness[不情愿]to give up. These are the elements that I found the most moving and life-changing[改變?nèi)松腯about this book. Though I remember reading Hatchet and being intrigued[引起……的興趣]by the practical[實際的]descriptions of details surrounding Brian’s survival, I think it is good that the review does not get cluttered[使雜亂]by this kind of minutiae[細枝末節(jié)].

Hatchet is one of the 50 bestsellers[暢銷書]for teenagers in the States. What we can learn from this book is the “never-give-up” spirit, which is undoubtedly of vital[至關(guān)重要的]importance for our young kids. I am very delighted to witness He Xin broaden his horizons by reading such kind of fascinating original books[原版書].

A Successful Person in My Mind

Lang Lang is a successful person in my mind. Although he is young, he is one of the most famous pianists of our time. His success mainly came from hard work. When he was a little boy, he spent most of his time practicing playing the piano. At the age of 17, he became famous after he was chosen to play at a musical event in the USA. Lang Lang’s experiences tell me that hard work leads to success. I hope I can also become a successful person like him.
