1.Memoir is an apprentice of a wooden furniture factory in the small town of Will. Like others， he polishes the master's wooden articles every day.米洛是威爾小鎮(zhèn)一個(gè)木器廠的小學(xué)徒。他和其他的學(xué)徒一樣，每天把師傅做好的木器打磨得光滑細(xì)致。

2.However， Memoir is tired of this job. He likes disassembling the master's wooden articles secretly， studying their structure and reassembling them. 可是，米洛厭倦了這個(gè)工作。他喜歡在沒有人的時(shí)候，偷偷拆開師傅做好的木器，研究木器的結(jié)構(gòu)，再組裝回去。

3.One day， Memoir passes a blacksmith's shop and is attracted by the sounds of ding-dong. He decides to work as an apprentice there. 有一天，米洛路過鐵匠鋪，被那歡快的“叮叮當(dāng)當(dāng)”的打鐵聲吸引住了，他決定去給鐵匠當(dāng)學(xué)徒。

4.After working the bellows and studying the master's action for more than a year， Memoir begins to work with iron secretly. 在給鐵匠師傅拉了一年多風(fēng)箱并天天盯著師傅的動(dòng)作學(xué)習(xí)后，米洛開始偷偷地學(xué)起打鐵來。

5. But he is small and weak， he isn't too successful. The master touches him on the head and says with a smile， “My child， don't worry. You are clever. In a few years， when you have the strength， you will be a good blacksmith.” 但由于人小力氣也小，他做的東西都不大成功。師傅摸摸米洛的頭，微笑著說：“孩子，別著急，你很聰明，多學(xué)幾年，等有了力氣，你肯定能成為一個(gè)好鐵匠。”

6. Memoir follows the master's advice. He learns for more than a year and practices arms at the same time. By and by， his products are better and better. 米洛聽了師傅的話，又認(rèn)真地學(xué)了一年多，還天天練臂力。漸漸地，他做出來的東西也有模有樣了。

7. One day， the watchmaker in the town comes to the blacksmith's shop for his custom-made parts. Memoir is very curious. He follows him to the watchmaker's shop. From then on， he begins to learn how to assemble watches. 這天，鎮(zhèn)上的鐘表匠到鐵匠鋪來取他定做的零件。米洛好奇極了，他跟著鐘表匠去鐘表坊，從此，他跟著鐘表匠學(xué)起了鐘表組裝。

8. After a few years， Memoir is able to assemble watches. But he is tired of the job once more. 過了幾年，米洛學(xué)會(huì)了如何組裝鐘表，他又厭倦了這個(gè)工作。

9. Many years later， the other apprentices become famous carpenters， blacksmiths， watchmakers. But what about Memoir？ 許多年后，當(dāng)年堅(jiān)持下來的小學(xué)徒一個(gè)個(gè)都成了小有名氣的木匠、鐵匠、鐘表匠，而沒有堅(jiān)持下來的米洛又怎么樣了呢？

10. One day， Memoir notices a desk clock. Two birds fly out of it at noon every day. He suddenly has a bold idea. 有一天，米洛看著鐘表坊里的一個(gè)每到中午12點(diǎn)就會(huì)飛出兩只喳喳叫的小鳥的座鐘，突然靈光一閃，腦子里出現(xiàn)了一個(gè)大膽的主意……

11.A few days later， Memoir makes a puppy dog. It is made up of iron parts inside， but its external form is carved and assembled with wood. 幾天后，米洛做出了一只小狗，這只小狗內(nèi)部是由鐵質(zhì)零件組裝而成的，小狗的外形則是用木頭雕刻并拼裝成的。

12. As long as it is wound， the puppy will wag its head. A child sees that and asks his father to buy it. The latter spends two silver coins on it. 只要上了發(fā)條，這只小狗就會(huì)搖頭晃腦地走起路來。一個(gè)跟著父親來買鐘表的孩子看到了，就纏著父親買這只小狗。父親花了兩個(gè)銀幣買下了它。

13. Memoir is very happy. After that， he makes other small movable animals like cats and birds. They are more and more exquisite and vivid. 米洛高興極了，之后，他又做了小貓、小鳥等許多可以動(dòng)的小動(dòng)物，而且做得越來越精致、生動(dòng)。

14. More and more people come to buy the toys. At last， Memoir opens the biggest toy store in the town. 來買他玩具的人也越來越多。最后，米洛開了一家鎮(zhèn)上最大的玩具店。

15. In fact， many roads lead to success. You can stick to one， and also can make a few more choices and choose the most suitable one. As long as you use your head， what you've learned and the ways you've used can become your wealth at last. 其實(shí)，成功的方式不止一種。你可以堅(jiān)持一條道路，也可以多走幾條道路，然后選擇最適合自己的一條。只要你肯動(dòng)腦筋，你學(xué)過的東西、走過的路，最后都有可能成為你的財(cái)富。
