Ataxonomic study of the Subtribe Lathrobiina(Coleoptera,Staphylinidae) in Shanghai

Materials of Lathrobiina (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae) from Shanghai,eastern China,were examined.Three species were identified:Lathrobium dignumSharp,1874,Pseudolathra lineataHerman,2003 andTetartopeus gracilentusKraatz,1859.Lathrobium dignumandTetartopeus gracilentusare newly discovered from Shanghai.Illustrations of female sexual characters ofLathrobium dignumandPseudolathra lineataare provided for the first time.

1 Introduction

The speciose paederine Subtribe Lathrobiina is represented in China by 318 species in ten genera[1-7].Only one species of the genusPseudolathraCasey,1905 was previously recorded from Shanghai:Pseudolathra lineataHerman,2003[7],but no species of the genusLathrobiumGravenhorst,1802 andTetartopeusCzwalina,1888 have been reported from Shanghai.

We surveyed the staphylinid fauna of several localities in Shanghai (Shanghai Zoo,31°11’N,121°21’E;Shanghai Normal University,31°09’N,121°24’E;Songjiang,31°02’N,121°13’E;Taigu,31°11’N,121°23’E and Tianma Hill,31°04’N,121°09’E),and collected numerous specimens.During the study on the Chinese Lathrobiina,Lathrobium dignumSharp,1874 andTetartopeus gracilentusKraatz,1859 were newly collected from Shanghai,eastern China.In this paper,we would like to provide illustrations of its habitus and female sexual characters ofLathrobium dignumSharp,1874 andPseudolathra lineataHerman,2003.The treated specimens are deposited in the Insect Collections of Shanghai Normal University,Shanghai,P.R.China (SHNU).

2 Materials and methods

All specimens were collected from the forest floor by sifting.They were killed with ethylacetate and then dried.Dissections were done in water.The genital organs and other dissected parts were mounted in Euparal (Chroma Gesellschaft Schmidt,Koengen,Germany) on plastic slides that were placed on the same pin as the specimen.Photos were taken by a Canon EOS 40D Camera with an MP-E 65 mm Macro Lens or by a Canon G9 Camera mounted on an Olympus CX31 microscope.

3 Results

Lathrobium dignumSharp,1874(Figs.1(a),2(a～c),3(a))

Comment.The female sexual characters are as follows:posterior margin of tergite VIII (Fig.2(a)) weakly convex;posterior margin of sternite VIII (Fig.2(b)) convex;female tergite IX (Fig.2(c)) with very long antero-median portion and slender postero-lateral processes,antero-median portion without median suture;tergite X (Fig.2(c)) 0.5 times as long as antero-median portion of tergite IX.For illustrations ofL.dignumsee Cho (2012:figures 5,12,13)[8].

Distribution andbiological notes.Lathrobium dignumwas previously recorded from Russia,North Korea,South Korea,Japan and the Chinese provinces Jiangsu,Gansu and Shaanxi[9].This species is newly discovered from Shanghai.Some of specimens were collected by sifting bamboo leaves and humus from the floor of a bamboo forest in the arboretum of the Shanghai Normal University (Fig.3).

Material studied (2 ♂♂,1 ♀).China:2 ♂♂,1 ♀,Shanghai,Shanghai Zoo,03.vii.2015,Jian-Qing Zhu leg.(SHNU).

Comment.The female sexual characters are as follows:posterior margin of tergite VIII (Fig.2(d)) angular in middle;posterior margin of sternite VIII (Fig.2(e)) convex;female tergite IX (Fig.2(f)) with long antero-median portion and moderately slender postero-lateral processes,antero-median portion with median suture;tergite X (Fig.2(f)) 3.0 times as long as antero-median portion of tergite IX.For illustrations ofP.lineatasee Assing (2012:figures 15-19)[10].

Distribution and biological notes.Previously,this species was known from Japan,the Chinese provinces Jiangsu,Jiangxi,Shanghai,Sichuan and Taiwan[9].The specimens were collected by sifting leaf litter and weeds from the floor of the hardwood forest withCinnamomum camphora,Platanus acerifolia,Fatsia japonica,Celtis sinensis,Trachycarpus fortuneiandMorus albain the Shanghai Zoo (Fig.4).

Tetartopeus gracilentusKraatz,1859(Fig.1(c),3(c))

Material studied (1 ♂,1 ♀).China:1 ♂,Shanghai,Tianma Hill,30.i.2013,Zhong Peng leg.(SHNU);1♀,Shanghai,Shanghai Zoo,03.vii.2015,Jian-Qing Zhu leg.(SHNU).

Comment.For illustrations ofT.gracilentussee Cho (2012:figures 3,10,11)[8]and Assing (2011:figures 39-51;2014:figures 17,20)[3,11].

Distribution and biological notes.Tetartopeus gracilentuswas previously recorded from Russia,South Korea,Japan,Australian Region,Oriental Region and the Chinese provinces Zhejiang,Hunan,Guizhou,Yunnan and Taiwan[9].This species is newly discovered from Shanghai and is the most widespread in the genus.The female specimen was collected by sifting leaf litter and humus from the floor of the hardwood forest withCinnamomum camphora,Platanus acerifolia,Fatsia japonica,Celtis sinensis,Trachycarpus fortuneiandMorus albain Shanghai Zoo (Fig.5).

在中國(guó)上海隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)亞族的分類研究中,共鑒定出隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)亞族3屬共3種:赤翅隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)Lathrobium dignumSharp,1874,黑紋偽隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)Pseudolathra lineataHerman,2003和翅斑細(xì)項(xiàng)隱翅蟲(chóng)Tetartopeus gracilentusKraatz,1859.首次報(bào)道了赤翅隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)Lathrobium dignum和翅斑細(xì)項(xiàng)隱翅蟲(chóng)Tetartopeus gracilentus在上海的分布.首次給出了赤翅隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)Lathrobium dignum和黑紋偽隆線隱翅蟲(chóng)Pseudolathra lineata的雌性特征圖,并對(duì)其主要雌性分類特征進(jìn)行了描述.
