Mrs Ban and I are honoured to attend this opening ceremony.

I thank the government of China and Prof. Wu Weishan for bringing this enlightening exhibit to the United Nations.

The sculptures embody not just the soul of a nation but of all humanity.

I look at the figures of the children and they immediately remind me of the girls and women who take the UN as their frontline fighting for dignity， equality， and opportunity.

And when I see the busts of Confucius， I recall my own childhood.

I was brought up with the traditional education system based on Confucius thought， and I was deeply effected by it throughtout my life.

Confucius thought that“ To put the world in order， we must first put the nation in order； to put the nation in order， we must put the family in order； to put the family in order， we must cultivate our personal life； and to cultivate our personal life， we must first set our hearts right. ”

These words are as true today as ever. Here at the United Nations we deal with global issues everyday， and to many eyes these probems may seem too huge to resolve.

But any issue can be broken down into small steps and individual solutions.

Any problem can be solved when the heart is set right.

This exhibit highlights the importance and the role of the individual people.

It transfers the information to me that by respecting each other and working together we can create the future we want.

女士們先生們，

能夠出席此次展覽的開幕儀式，我和我的夫人感到非常榮幸。我要感謝中國政府和吳為山教授將這樣一個(gè)富于啟發(fā)性的展覽帶到聯(lián)合國來。

這些雕塑作品蘊(yùn)含的不僅是一個(gè)國家，更是全人類的靈魂。

看到中國小女孩的塑像，我立刻聯(lián)想到那些祈望聯(lián)合國保護(hù)她們的尊嚴(yán)、平等和機(jī)遇的女性。

而孔子的雕塑則讓我回憶起了自己的童年。我在儒家傳統(tǒng)中長大，儒家思想對(duì)我一生的發(fā)展產(chǎn)生了重大的影響?？鬃咏虒?dǎo)我們：“修身，齊家，治國，平天下。”時(shí)至今日，這番話依然是真理。

在聯(lián)合國，我們所應(yīng)對(duì)的是全球的國際事務(wù)。在很多人看來，這些問題似乎太大，太難解決了。其實(shí)，任何問題都可以分解成小的步驟和單個(gè)行動(dòng)。只要能做到“正心誠意”就沒有解決不了的難題。

這次展覽強(qiáng)調(diào)了個(gè)人作用的重要性。它告訴我，通過彼此尊重及通力協(xié)作，我們可以開創(chuàng)我們所企盼的未來。

吳為山教授，我要感謝你用智慧的雙手創(chuàng)作出如此杰作并與全世界分享。

Wu Weishan， worldwide renowned sculptor， has engaged in sculpture creation for more than twenty years. In his sculptures， he advocates the integration of the expressive spirit of traditional Chinese art， blazing a new trail of espressive sculpture in China. Now he is a member of the national committee of CPPCC， president of National Art Museum， vice chairman of Chinese Artists Association， and chairman of Chinese Urban Sculptors Association etc. He has participated in various exhibitions and won grand prizes. In 2016， he received the honor of “Cultural Exchange Envoy” from the State Council.

吳為山，著名雕塑家?，F(xiàn)為全國政協(xié)委員，中國美術(shù)館館長，中國美術(shù)家協(xié)會(huì)副主席，中國城市雕塑家協(xié)會(huì)主席，全國城市雕塑藝術(shù)委員會(huì)主任，中國雕塑院院長、教授、博士生導(dǎo)師。

2003年獲英國皇家“攀格林獎(jiǎng)”，2009年獲新中國城市雕塑建設(shè)成就獎(jiǎng)，2011年獲首屆中華藝文獎(jiǎng)，2012年獲法國美術(shù)家協(xié)會(huì)頒發(fā)的國際美術(shù)金獎(jiǎng)，2014年獲美國洛克菲勒“RRC首屆中國藝術(shù)年度人物”，2015年獲得全國中青德藝雙馨文藝工作者稱號(hào)。香港中文大學(xué)榮譽(yù)院士、文學(xué)博士，韓國仁濟(jì)大學(xué)名譽(yù)哲學(xué)博士，英國皇家雕塑家協(xié)會(huì)院士（FRBS）。2016年獲國務(wù)院新聞辦頒授的講好中國故事文化交流使者。

吳為山教授一直以挖掘和精研中國傳統(tǒng)文化為人生命題，弘揚(yáng)和傳承中華傳統(tǒng)文化。他長期致力于中國文化精神在雕塑創(chuàng)作中的融滲和表現(xiàn)，創(chuàng)作了大量具有影響力的雕塑，在世界多國展覽，并被重要博物館收藏。他創(chuàng)作的近500件中國文化名人系列雕塑，被季羨林等大師譽(yù)為“時(shí)代造像”，被國際評(píng)論界認(rèn)為是“中國時(shí)代新精神的代表”。韓國建有他的雕塑公園，南京博物院等建立“吳為山雕塑館”，羅馬意大利國家博物館、英國劍橋菲茨威廉博物館等世界著名博物館永久安放其作品《齊白石與達(dá)芬奇對(duì)話》、《孔子》等。代表作《孔子》《孔子問道于老子》立于世界多個(gè)國家。聯(lián)合國秘書長潘基文贊：吳為山作品表現(xiàn)了全人類的靈魂。

吳為山教授首創(chuàng)中國現(xiàn)代寫意雕塑之風(fēng)，提出寫意雕塑的理論和“中國雕塑八大風(fēng)格論”，出版多部理論著作。這是對(duì)中國雕塑優(yōu)秀傳統(tǒng)的全面總結(jié)，對(duì)中國雕塑當(dāng)下創(chuàng)作的發(fā)展方向起到極大的引領(lǐng)作用。

吳為山教授長期以來積極推動(dòng)當(dāng)代中國藝術(shù)在世界的傳播，為中外文化交流做出了重要貢獻(xiàn)。
