古希臘“心”范疇詞的認(rèn)知隱喻研究
——以埃斯庫(kù)羅斯悲劇為例

[摘要]古希臘時(shí)期與“心”范疇相關(guān)的詞語(yǔ)既具有多樣性,也在語(yǔ)義上具有相似性和差異性。從認(rèn)知隱喻的視角,對(duì)埃斯庫(kù)羅斯悲劇中和兩個(gè)“心”范疇詞的認(rèn)知特征進(jìn)行比較研究,會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)兩個(gè)詞語(yǔ)在認(rèn)知特征上都表現(xiàn)出實(shí)體性和空間性的特點(diǎn);二者的差異則具體表現(xiàn)為:的實(shí)體性更為明顯,而的結(jié)構(gòu)性更突出。這些語(yǔ)義上的共性和差異,反映出古希臘時(shí)期人們對(duì)“心”范疇的認(rèn)知特點(diǎn)。

在人類思想史上,“心”是與思維和語(yǔ)言密切相關(guān)的范疇,早在公元前6世紀(jì)的古希臘,人們就已經(jīng)意識(shí)到“心”與理性、情感與行為之間的密切關(guān)系,相關(guān)詞語(yǔ)表征也呈現(xiàn)出多樣性,研究古典時(shí)期人們對(duì)“心”范疇的認(rèn)知和表述,對(duì)深入了解西方語(yǔ)言觀具有重要意義?!靶摹奔嬗芯呦蠛统橄蟮奶卣?。認(rèn)知語(yǔ)言學(xué)認(rèn)為,人類在對(duì)事物間基本關(guān)系的認(rèn)知基礎(chǔ)上構(gòu)建起一種認(rèn)知結(jié)構(gòu),稱作意象圖式,它是在人類的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和對(duì)事物的理解中形成的聯(lián)系抽象關(guān)系和具體意象的組織結(jié)構(gòu),是人類理解和認(rèn)知更復(fù)雜概念的一種基本結(jié)構(gòu)。[1-2]概念隱喻(conceptual metaphor)作為一種認(rèn)知方式,可以分為結(jié)構(gòu)隱喻、實(shí)體隱喻和方位隱喻三種。[3]隱喻這種認(rèn)知方式,是從一個(gè)概念域到另一個(gè)概念域的映射。[4]203對(duì)于“心”這個(gè)既有具體意義又有抽象意義的范疇,人們?cè)谠~語(yǔ)的使用過(guò)程中,也會(huì)表現(xiàn)出不同的概念隱喻特征。基于此,本文將從認(rèn)知語(yǔ)言學(xué)概念隱喻的視角,對(duì)古希臘“心”范疇下的兩個(gè)詞語(yǔ)加以比較研究,探究古希臘時(shí)期人們對(duì)“心”這一范疇的認(rèn)知特點(diǎn)。人們?cè)趯?duì)“心”這個(gè)范疇進(jìn)行認(rèn)知的過(guò)程中,也會(huì)體現(xiàn)出上述認(rèn)知特征?!靶摹狈懂犜~語(yǔ)的結(jié)構(gòu)隱喻(structural metaphor)就是以具象概念結(jié)構(gòu)來(lái)構(gòu)造“心”這個(gè)概念;實(shí)體隱喻(ontological metaphor)是用人對(duì)物質(zhì)世界的經(jīng)驗(yàn)描寫“心”這個(gè)抽象認(rèn)知范疇;方位隱喻(orientational metaphor)是根據(jù)空間方位描述“心”這個(gè)范疇的屬性。本文選取古希臘悲劇中的“心”范疇詞,從上述角度分析“心”范疇認(rèn)知特點(diǎn)。
一、古希臘時(shí)期的“心”范疇詞
英譯文:As for the rest, since your heart is rightly set on action, put your fortune to the test and get to your work at once.
中譯文:至于其余的,既然你的心都放在這事情上,那就去碰碰運(yùn)氣,快點(diǎn)干活吧。①
英譯文:For he does not wish to appear the bravest, but to be the bravest, as he harvests the fruit of his mind’s deep furrow, where his careful resolutions grow.
中譯文:因?yàn)樗幌胫皇强雌饋?lái)勇敢,而是希望擁有真正的勇氣,這是他反思之后,在內(nèi)心深處生出的想法,認(rèn)真而決絕。
英譯文:Whether the babbling letters shaped in gold on his shield, together with his mind’s wanderings, will bring him back.
中譯文:他盾牌上鑲金的話語(yǔ),加上內(nèi)心的徘徊,是否會(huì)讓他回頭。
英譯文:I have a timely word of advice:arrogance is truly the child of impiety,ut from health of soulcomes happiness,dear to all,much prayed for.
中譯文:我主張把握分寸,開(kāi)口說(shuō)告:此事確切,不虔誠(chéng)生子狂傲,而受人鐘愛(ài)的幸福,我們盼望,為之祈禱,則出自心魂的健康、美好。
英譯文:But again my heart throbs as I hear this pitiful lament. At once I am devoid of hope and my viscera are darkened at the words I hear...
中譯文:耳聽(tīng)可憐的企盼,顫抖再次撩撥我的心房。你的話使我心胸烏黑聽(tīng)后陷入絕望。
分析:此文中“心”的生理意義明顯,但依然具有隱喻認(rèn)知特征。從搭配意義上看,“心”不僅會(huì)“顫抖”,所搭配的“撩撥”一詞也顯示出其物理實(shí)體性特征。
英譯文: Speak—but my heart is dancing with fear.
中譯文:何事?快說(shuō)。我的心兒已被嚇得來(lái)回?fù)u晃。
分析:此文中“心”作為實(shí)體,具有空間延展性特征,會(huì)在空間中因恐懼而“搖晃、舞蹈”。
英譯文:And yet through all my life my heart is fed with lamentation.
中譯文:我的一生在苦難中渡過(guò),心里滿是惆悵。
英譯文:…my heart would outstrip my tongue and pour forth its fears…
中譯文:我的心靈眼下會(huì)把舌頭趕超,傾倒苦水,讓它流出。
英譯文:For my ungoverned wits are whirling me away overmastered,and at my heart fear wishes to sing and dance to a tune of wrath.
中譯文:我的理智已被扭傷,迷迷糊糊,難以掌控;而我心中的恐懼卻將隨著憤怒的曲調(diào)起舞、歌唱。
英譯文:I detect a threat that is a lash upon my heart.
中譯文:你的話像條鞭子,抽打我的心房。

A Study on the Words of “Heart” in Ancient Greek Period with Cognitive Metaphorical Theory——Based on Aeschylus Tragedies

Abstract:In ancient Greek period, there are many words under the category of “heart”, which are of semantic commonalities and differences. This paper makes a comparative study between and , both of which bear the meaning of “heart”, from the cognitive metaphorical view. And it turns out that both these words share the features of ontological and orientational metaphor, while is more characterized with ontological metaphor and is more characterized with structural metaphor. These commonalties and differences can help to reveal the cognitive features of “heart” by people in Ancient Greek period.
