        淺談?wù)n堂追問在英語教學(xué)中的應(yīng)用

        【摘要】:英語課堂教學(xué)中的追問策略能為傳統(tǒng)課堂注入富有創(chuàng)造性的新鮮血液,在追問技巧的實(shí)施過程中教師的地位不容小覷。根據(jù)教師設(shè)置追問的不同課堂階段,本文將主要從課堂導(dǎo)入、課堂調(diào)控、課堂質(zhì)疑三階段的追問特點(diǎn)進(jìn)行分析總結(jié),不同的追問方式帶來的效果不同。新進(jìn)教師在課堂教學(xué)中缺乏對追問策略的重視與運(yùn)用,這一點(diǎn)需在實(shí)踐中不斷加強(qiáng)訓(xùn)練,向資深教師學(xué)習(xí)探究。在追問策略使用過程中,也應(yīng)注意問題邏輯性、時機(jī)適宜性與對象多樣性。

        一、什么是課堂追問

        追問,即追根究底地查問,多次的問。當(dāng)用于英語課堂教學(xué)中,追問便演化為一種重要且必要的教學(xué)策略,講求根據(jù)學(xué)生對問題的回答情況,實(shí)時且有效地進(jìn)行二次提問?!督虒W(xué)方法與藝術(shù)全書》將追問定義為對某一內(nèi)容或某一問題,為使學(xué)生弄懂弄通,一問之后的再次提問,有時還需要窮追不舍,直到學(xué)生能正確解答為止。追問是促進(jìn)學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)、實(shí)現(xiàn)有效教學(xué)的重要教學(xué)策略,有助于激發(fā)學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)興趣,激活學(xué)生思維,并對于課堂所學(xué)知識有一個更全面的理解。追問式課堂教學(xué)不同于傳統(tǒng)教學(xué)法,更注重帶動學(xué)生自主思考學(xué)習(xí)的能力,充分發(fā)揮主觀能動性。

        二、追問的不同形式與作用

        追問可以看作是教師課堂反饋形式中的一種,但實(shí)際上追問的范圍可擴(kuò)展到課堂的任一階段。根據(jù)廣泛認(rèn)同的歸類方式,可將追問分為以下三種類型。

        1,在課堂導(dǎo)入時追問

        追問導(dǎo)入是一種常用的導(dǎo)入方法,要求循序漸進(jìn),其作用在于使教師通過提問了解學(xué)生對已有知識的熟悉程度,并追加相關(guān)的語言信息,找到新舊知識的結(jié)合點(diǎn),自然而巧妙地導(dǎo)入到新課內(nèi)容,從而使學(xué)生水到渠成地領(lǐng)會新課內(nèi)容。無論是頭腦風(fēng)暴法、影像法或是游戲法,教師均能通過問題的正確設(shè)置層層推進(jìn),在與學(xué)生輕松愉悅的交流中發(fā)現(xiàn)與感悟新知,引出主題。

        如下是一課堂導(dǎo)入的轉(zhuǎn)錄部分,該課主題為presents。

        T: Coming guy! Ss: Morning, Helen! T: Just excuse me, do you know what day is it today? [sic] What's the day? Ss: Thursday. T: Yes, it is Thursday. What's the date? Mike? S: It's November 10th. Oh, September 10th. T: Oh my God! There is September 10th. [sic]Sit down, please. So today, you please, Cindy. S: Teacher's day. T: That's good. It's Teacher's day. So what should you say to me? [sic]You please. S: ha...Happy teachers’ day! T: Wonderful, yes! OK! Many teachers there and my students here. So we can say happy...ready, go! Ss: Happy teachers’ day! T: Yes, Happy teacher's day today. So I'm very happy. First we are going to give you a small gift. What is it? Can you guess? Cindy, what is a small gift? Ss: (silent) T: Because it is a special day. I want to give you a small gift. What is it? Can you guess? S: It's a wonderful lesson. T: Oh, It's a wonderful lesson. Yes, I think so. Yes. I 'm sure I'll give you a wonderful lesson. Please, Tony, what is it?

        課堂一開始,教師通過與學(xué)生自然地問候拉近彼此距離,由于恰逢教師節(jié),該教師抓住這一時機(jī),以此為話題展開課堂,但教師并未直接問 “Do you know what special day is it today?[sic]” 而是通過 “Do you know what is it today?” “What’s the date?” “What should you say to me?” “What should you say to teachers sitting there?”[sic]等一系列問題的提出,運(yùn)用追問的方式使課堂在短短幾分鐘時間活躍起來,教師幽默風(fēng)趣的風(fēng)格也得到了同學(xué)們的認(rèn)可,之后教師指出 “Because it is a special day. I want to give you a small gift. What is it? Can you guess?” 使話題自然而然轉(zhuǎn)為present,通過競猜的方式引起學(xué)生的好奇心,有助于知識的接收。

        2.在課堂調(diào)控時追問

        教師在課堂調(diào)控中采用追問策略時,需掌握好追問的節(jié)奏與頻率,要注意反饋的適時相關(guān)性與問題設(shè)置的合理性,確保課堂教學(xué)內(nèi)容順利地進(jìn)行,追問的過程仍需與課堂內(nèi)容緊密相連,這樣才能有助于提高課堂教學(xué)效率。好的追問不僅能夠幫助促進(jìn)知識傳遞與學(xué)生思維活動,更能幫助教師調(diào)控課堂秩序。當(dāng)學(xué)生思維遇到障礙和阻礙,不能進(jìn)一步深入地思考,使得問題回答顯得粗淺,缺乏深度。這時候,教師要適當(dāng)利用追問提供思維方法,搭設(shè)思維調(diào)班,幫助學(xué)生開拓思路,活躍思維,繼續(xù)思考。教師不能隨心所欲,學(xué)生也不能無所顧忌,這就需要教師具有課堂調(diào)控的能力,適時調(diào)整課堂的起伏、快慢、收放、疏密、動靜的變化,因勢利導(dǎo)等。

        課堂調(diào)控涉及到課堂的主體過程,以下為閱讀前的教學(xué)轉(zhuǎn)錄片段:

        T: Good. Now let’s look at the title first. It’s a very long title, so I’d love to read for you. Our brave world traveler make the way to east Thailand…all right? [sic] T: So that’s the title. We can get a lot of information from it. For example, who made the choice? Answer me together. Ss: Traveler. T: Yes, world travelers, right? And where did they go? Ss: Eastern Thailand. T: Together. Eastern Thailand Ss: Eastern Thailand. T: Yes, and who did they meet? Ss:(John..) T: John Jane Thai. Yes, and what’s the job of this man? Ss: (builder.) T: Yes, a builder. Or there is a picture in the passage 2, right? I’ve got a colored one, look at him, look here. What’s in it? [sic] Ss:( farm) T: Farm, yes, yes, it’s a farm, right? So could you guess, make a guess, this first one. Ss : farmer. T: Yes, maybe it’s farmer, right. We will find it out later.

        教師在帶領(lǐng)學(xué)生朗讀理解文章標(biāo)題,與初步感知文章內(nèi)容之后(skimming),提出一系列與文章內(nèi)容緊密相連的問題,通過不斷的追問,形成一個強(qiáng)勁的推動力,引起學(xué)生思考,學(xué)生在教師的帶領(lǐng)與幫助下完成回答,形成課文內(nèi)容的基本框架,有利于后續(xù)課文的學(xué)習(xí)。同時通過連續(xù)回答,訓(xùn)練了學(xué)生的口語表達(dá)與快速作答能力。

        3.在課堂質(zhì)疑時追問

        學(xué)生在學(xué)習(xí)過程中犯錯是十分正常的,對此教師應(yīng)給予積極鼓勵的反饋方式。教師應(yīng)該善于挖掘和發(fā)現(xiàn)錯誤背后隱藏的教育價值,引領(lǐng)學(xué)生從錯中求知,從錯中探究。在學(xué)生出現(xiàn)表達(dá)錯誤時,教師應(yīng)及時把握糾錯實(shí)際,給予一定暗示性的追問,就能有效幫助學(xué)生發(fā)現(xiàn)自身錯誤并及時糾正,以此錯誤為契機(jī)對舊知識進(jìn)行查漏補(bǔ)缺,鞏固和強(qiáng)化語言知識,而非責(zé)怪學(xué)生。在課堂質(zhì)疑時追問,也可以看做是對學(xué)生錯誤的糾正方式之一。

        追問對于原問題的充分理解與掌握具有助推作用,若在課堂中老師只管提問,不管效果,那么許多好問題都不得不大打折扣。要提高英語課堂教學(xué)的有效性,教師應(yīng)注重課堂提問,掌握追問的時機(jī)、方式和有效性,通過課堂上的有效提問、深入追問和適時點(diǎn)撥,使學(xué)生在心理上加深對知識的印象,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生思考問題、解決問題的能力,從而達(dá)到啟發(fā)式教學(xué)的目的。

        以下為課堂糾錯及追問的轉(zhuǎn)錄片段:

        T: But I would like to ask you what will your life be like with robots, with robots, that’s the key word…in 30 years, how old will you be in 30 years? S: I think we will be more lazy. [sic] T: more? More lazy? Sorry, Lazier. We will be lazier. Why do you think we will be lazier? "S: Because robots will do everything for us. T: Oh, yes, they will do everything for us and human being will be lazier. That’s not good. That’s not a good picture. Let’s hope for a better future.

        三、新進(jìn)教師課堂追問技巧的缺失

        通過觀看大批新進(jìn)教師的上課視頻,筆者發(fā)現(xiàn)絕大多數(shù)新進(jìn)教師,在課堂中與學(xué)生交流之時,仍缺乏一種“老練”之神態(tài)——即,將與學(xué)生交流的機(jī)會視作日常生活中再簡單自然不過的一件事兒,而非視作一項(xiàng)具體的教學(xué)任務(wù),死板硬套地去完成。初入講臺的壓力使得多數(shù)新進(jìn)教師按照課本內(nèi)容循規(guī)蹈矩地授課,將師范技能中學(xué)得的反饋語硬邦邦地用于學(xué)生回答,少有自己發(fā)揮、與情境緊密結(jié)合的部分,更不用說追問技巧的使用。而正是因?yàn)檫@一缺失,新進(jìn)教師的課堂誠然多些活力,卻缺少由追問所帶來的課堂深度,學(xué)生的口語表達(dá)能力與思辨能力也無法得到較好的訓(xùn)練。

        以下片段摘自于某一實(shí)習(xí)教師的上課視頻:

        T: last month, I went to Shaoxin, can you guess how did I get to Shaoxin? What kind of transportation did I take? [sic] Ss: Bus, train…T: play a video which shows the sound that transportation makes. T: Ok, now you have known my trip, I want to know how do you get to school. Have a try!PPT shows the sentence pattern. [sic]S1: How do you get to school?S2: I take a bus to schoolS3: How do you get to school?S4: I take a train.

        整堂課中多數(shù)pair work均以此類單向問答的形式展開,新進(jìn)教師對于學(xué)生起立回答的內(nèi)容僅僅給予最常用的反饋用語,例如 “good”, “very good, sit down, please”, “well done”等,而未對學(xué)生回答的具體內(nèi)容作出評價或深層次的追問,這類反饋并未能激發(fā)學(xué)生探索新知的積極性,使知識的掌握只停留在“學(xué)會表達(dá)所使用交通工具”的表面。若教師能抓住適當(dāng)時機(jī),及時靈活地對學(xué)生的回答繼續(xù)追問,例如在學(xué)生回答 “I take the train to school”之后,教師可以多問一句 “why do you choose to take the train to school?” 甚至可以反問一句 “why don’t you take the bicycle/train/bus/subway to school?”這多問的一句起到的作用是巨大的,有助于活躍學(xué)生思維,教師從而獲得更多富有創(chuàng)造性的答案與想法,學(xué)生可能會回答 “because my home is far from school”, 選擇bus的同學(xué)可能會回答 “because it is cheap”。通過教師追問,學(xué)生的注意力不僅僅局限于課堂知識,反而已然擴(kuò)大至所有所學(xué)知識的大倉庫,這樣才能取得事半功倍的效果。而若只給予學(xué)生單純的鼓勵性反饋是遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠的,學(xué)生的積極性也會逐漸下降,影響課堂質(zhì)量與學(xué)習(xí)效果。

        四、資深教師課堂追問的巧妙運(yùn)用

        以下我將對一位資深教師追問式課堂教學(xué)的展開進(jìn)行較具體的分析說明。

        Textbook: Reading: Down the Rabbit Hole 第一部分為課堂導(dǎo)入階段,教師讓學(xué)生設(shè)想如果沒有作業(yè)他們會做些什么。

        T: OK, Yeah. What about you? S3: Eh, I like, eh, play with my friends. T: Ahh, you like play with your friends. What kind of…? Ball games? [sic] S3: Sports. T: Sports, right. OK. Boys really like doing sports. OK. Thank you.

        教師運(yùn)用了追問技巧,在學(xué)生回答 “play with my friends” 之后,教師并未直接以 “ok” 結(jié)束對話,而是繼續(xù)發(fā)問 “what kind of”,表現(xiàn)出教師的投入與對學(xué)生的關(guān)注。

        T: What about you? What do you like to do? S4: I'd like to read a book and drink a cup of tea. T: You'd like to read books and drink a cup of tea. And what kinds of books do you like to read? S4: I like to look, I like to read interesting books, like…eh…[sic] T: OK. You like reading interesting books and what kinds of books do you think, interesting? S4: For example, the ninth rabbits. T: Oh, yeah, right, OK. What about these books? Now, sit down, please. Look at these books, do you like reading fairy tales? Now, look at this book. I think you are very familiar with them, okay? Have you ever read them? Yes or no? Ss: Yes.

        本堂課的主要內(nèi)容為愛麗絲夢游仙境的起因,當(dāng)有同學(xué)回答喜歡看書時,恰好與本堂課的主題相聯(lián)系,教師抓住時機(jī),通過追問“what kinds of books do you like to read” 引出 “fairy tales”,從而引出《愛麗絲夢游仙境》,過渡十分自然。

        第二部分內(nèi)容:教師讓學(xué)生設(shè)想自己為Alice, 當(dāng)她來到陌生的世界時內(nèi)心的感受。

        T: OK, good. What about you? What did you feel, if you were Alice? Ss: I will sad. [sic] T: You will be sad. You felt sad, OK? Why do you feel sad? Ss: Because I... T: Do you want to go home? Ss: Yes. T: Yes, but can you go back home? Ss: I can't. T: You can't. So you may feel very very sad. OK, sit down, thank you. What about you? What's your feeling, if you were Alice? Ss: I will scared, too. [sic] T: You will, you will be scared, too. Right? OK, you will get scared too.

        教師創(chuàng)設(shè)情境,通過追問的方式,幫助學(xué)生嘗試表達(dá)自己的想法,同時鼓勵不同的答案,從而對課文內(nèi)容有了更深入的理解。

        第三部分內(nèi)容: 對Alice的人物形象進(jìn)行評價

        T: Now, can you answer my question? What do you think of Alice after reading this part? Yeah! I give you some choices here. Now, who thinks Alice is brave and curious, timid or careful? You can have more than one choice. So what do you think of Alice? And then tell me why. Okay. The boy, you please. Yeah, use the microphone. S5: I think she is curious.T: You think she is curious. Why do you think so? S5: Because he jump with the rabbit. [sic]T: Because she jumped down with the rabbit. Okay. Yeah. Anything else? S5: No. T: No. Okay. Yeah. He thinks Alice is curious. Yeah. Because of her curiosity, you know, Alice went after the rabbit and jumped down the hole. Do you think so? Ss: (nod). T: Good! What else? Any others? You please, the girl. Yeah. Microphone. S6: I think Alice is brave. T: Uh! And why? S6: Because she just saw a white rabbit jump down in the hole. But she don't...But she don't know anything in the hole. [sic] T: Yeah! I quite agree with you. You see. She thinks Alice is really brave. Now sit down. Why? Because you see, in such kind of a situation, Alice didn't cry. Okay. And Alice didn't ask for help. Why? Because nobody could help her at that time. So what did she do? She uses her head. She's brave enough, you see, to overcome all these difficulties. Do you think so? Good! And what else? Any other thing? You think. Does anyone think Alice is timid? Of course not. Do you think so? Ss: (nod).

        在每一位學(xué)生回答問題,發(fā)表完自己的看法之后,教師都會問一個 “why”,表現(xiàn)出英語課堂教學(xué)中的追問策略,教師希望通過再次提問,了解學(xué)生真實(shí)的想法,學(xué)生表達(dá)有困難之時給予幫助,學(xué)生表達(dá)后用正確的表達(dá)方式再次重述學(xué)生回答內(nèi)容。通過此類方式,教師希望學(xué)生對課文內(nèi)容能夠有自己的獨(dú)到見解,具有創(chuàng)造性,同時訓(xùn)練學(xué)生口語表達(dá)能力。

        整堂課中教師通過一系列的追問貫穿課文內(nèi)容,增加了教師與學(xué)生間的口語交流頻率,在一來一回的思維碰撞中使得學(xué)生不斷思考探究,涌現(xiàn)出新思想、新觀點(diǎn),推動課堂發(fā)展。

        五、課堂追問策略

        教師同樣應(yīng)注重實(shí)現(xiàn)英語有效課堂教學(xué)追問的三點(diǎn)策略,其一,要求教師關(guān)注并且明確追問與前問的邏輯關(guān)系:是內(nèi)容思想層面的進(jìn)一步延伸、拓展,還是補(bǔ)充說明?其二,要求教師把握追問的時機(jī),具有邏輯關(guān)系性的問題間時差不宜相距太多,抓住學(xué)生求知欲達(dá)到高潮時期進(jìn)行追問,同時注意提問的對象,整節(jié)課堂中的提問過程做到兼顧不同層次的學(xué)生,對正確的回答給予肯定表揚(yáng),對欠妥當(dāng)?shù)幕卮疬M(jìn)行誘導(dǎo)鼓勵;其三,要求教師對于不同的追問內(nèi)容選擇不同的追問方式,做到提問多樣性,能夠有效激發(fā)學(xué)生回答興趣,活躍課堂氛圍。

        課堂追問在課堂教學(xué)策略中占有舉足輕重的地位。追問增加了教師與學(xué)生的交流溝通,在問答的過程中,不僅鍛煉了學(xué)生的英語口語,培養(yǎng)了學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語的興趣,而且能在思想上與學(xué)生產(chǎn)生共鳴,調(diào)動學(xué)生情感,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生高尚的道德情操和健康的審美情趣。
