        一所專業(yè)性強,國際化程度高的外語大學——臺灣文藻外語大學研修記

        引言:

        2016年10月31日到11月12日,我和學校同事一行10人在臺灣文藻外語大學參加了“骨干教師英語能力提升研修”。參與了課堂學習,觀摩了兩位英語老師的課堂教學,參觀了語言會診中心,聽取了英語教學中心吳秋慧主任的關于共同英語課程的介紹和說明。研修時間雖然不是很長,但強度很大,收獲很多,現(xiàn)總結如下:

        一、文藻印象——一所人文開放的大學

        文藻外語大學是一所天主教私立大學,是臺灣唯一的外語大學,由圣吳蘇樂女修會于1966年創(chuàng)辦,創(chuàng)校的理念為培養(yǎng)外語實用人才,促進中西文化交流,宏揚中華文化於世界,培育健全青年,改良社會風氣,獻身國家建設。有英、法、德、日、西班牙語五種語言教學。校園設計、校舍建筑以及教學上,秉承勤儉、踏實的原則,營造了濃郁的人文氣氛。

        二、課堂學習——技能培養(yǎng)重于知識傳授

        兩周內我們接受了聽說讀寫綜合的培訓,開設的課程有 Testing Strategies,Listening and Speaking, Communicative Strategies,Reading, Writing and

        Presentation in English。下面逐一做個小結:

        1.Testing Strategies

        James taught us this course, his English is very good and he used to be a host in a TV station. We received TOIC training,which mainly focused on listening and reading. Some tips are practical: one is that if we want to improve our listening ability we need to practice more. And when can’t understand what we hear,we could go to read the scripts and then listen once more; the other is that before we listen to materials, we’d better read through questions so that we can predict the content of the material and focus the point.

        2.Listening and Speaking

        Janny taught us this course. She taught us some features of English speech,such as syllables,word stress, important endings,thought groups, intonation, linking,consonant clusters.

        The teacher also encouraged us to talk and express our own opinions about some certain topics.Sometimes she let us watch videos which are about American classroom teaching and education systems,after watching we were required to discuss about what we felt and thought. The activity could actually improve our conversational skills.

        Janny ,the other day, showed us around Mu Yushan Foods Co. LTD which is near Wenzao University. We visited the whole manufacturing process and knew about how raw materials are selected, how food products are produced and how the food is packed. Finally hospitable Wenzao offered us a delicious lunch.

        3.Communicative Strategies

        Si-an Chen taught us some strategies on making a compromise,modifying interactions,language registers and speech acts. The impressive thing is that she made very good preparation for teaching and designed various activities to inspire our creative thinking and improve our pragmatic ability.

        4.Reading,writingamp;Presentation

        Amy,the teacher, speaks very fluent English.She also made very good preparation for teaching. She adopted proper methods to reach everyone in class. Every moment of her teaching is full of interaction. She not only helped learners improve English proficiency but also let me know about effective ways of teaching reading and writing.For instance,how to design warming up exercises to activate learners’ background knowledge,how to help learners better understand the passage from the general idea to details,how to instruct learners to write a paragraph in an organized and logical way and how to make a clear, concise presentation.

        The most unforgettable thing is her all-English classroom atmosphere,and she made use of different ways to explain new words rather than use Chinese to help and regulate learners to think in English,to express in English.

        Although we stayed in Wenzao for just two weeks, we benefit a lot from all the teachers and faculty we met. Their profound academic knowledge, rich working experience, serious working attitude and their hospitality and kindness impressed us most. Therefore learning in Wnzao is a rewarding and unforgettable experience.

        三、共同英文介紹

        英語教學中心的吳秋慧主任向我們介紹了共同英語課程的教學目標、課程設置,考核方式等,印象深刻的有以下幾點:

        1.分層精細

        所有學生進校必須參加英文檢測,根據(jù)成績分為9個level,然后實施分級教學。

        2.考核綜合

        對于學生的考核實行過程性評價,平時成績、期中考試和期末考試各占50%、20%和30%。期中和期末考試有口試和筆試,全面考查學生的聽、說、讀、寫能力。

        3.分類要求

        共同英文課程實行8到24學分管理,程度不同的學生分別學習英文1到3年,英語專業(yè)和非英語專業(yè)分別達到260分和240分。若不能達到要求,進步80分亦可。若進步?jīng)]有80分,則需選學一門英語雜志,考核合格即可。

        四、語言診斷中心

        文藻外語大學設有一個語言診斷中心,對英、法、德、日、西班牙語五種語言學習者的學習情況進行分析診斷,并提出學習建議。學生可根據(jù)中心的建議,網(wǎng)上預約老師給予輔導,還可以申請小老師給予輔導,中心有多功能練習室,供學生練習口語,發(fā)音等。

        五、應用與建議

        1.全英文的教學環(huán)境

        文藻的共同課程的全英文授課,為提高學生的英文水平提供了一個很好的學習環(huán)境,值得我們學習。

        2.考核方式和題庫

        文藻對于學生的學期英語考核,注重過程性評價和聽、說、讀、寫能力的綜合考查。期中和期末考試都安排有口語測試,這一點值得我們參考。我校現(xiàn)在實行的教考分離也值得商榷,包含考試題的題庫直接提供給學生,這一做法的科學性有待考量,評價的目的是為了促進學生的學習,因此考試的內容與平時的教學內容也應該緊密關聯(lián)。北外的楊魯新教授也提倡這一做法。

        3.引進科學的分層考試體系

        文藻的每年一次的英檢(CSEPT)由專業(yè)機構命題,包含聽力和閱讀兩個部分??荚嚱Y果把學生分成9個等級。其命題的信度和效度可想而知。我校的大一新生入學后也進行了一次分層考試,按照考試成績分成3個層次,但老師們反映分層的精確度不高,給教學帶來了一定的難度,因此分層考試的信度和效度都有待提高。

        結語:

        總之,在文藻外語大學研修的時間不長,但收獲很多。學??茖W嚴謹?shù)恼n程設置體系,教師們的淵博的專業(yè)知識,豐富的教學經(jīng)驗,嚴謹?shù)墓ぷ鲬B(tài)度,以及熱情友好開放的胸懷,無不給我留下了深刻的印象。
