CPAPD Held the 9thJoint Conference of Member Organizations and The 2ndConference of the Board of Directors
On April 4, 2014, the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) held the 9thJoint Conference of Member Organizations and the 2ndConference of the Board of Directors in Beijing. Yan Junqi, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC); Han Qide, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wang Jiarui, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee, CPPCC and Ma Biao, Vice Chairman of the National Committee, CPPCC as well as 200 others attended the conference.
CPAPD Vice President Ma Wenpu made the working report on behalf of the 8thJoint Conference of Member Organizations, in which he pointed out that since the 8thJoint Conference of Member Organizations in 2009, CPAPD President Han Qide, Vice President Yan Junqi, Vice President Li Wuwei and other Vice Presidents have energetically expanded the CPAPD’s work, all member organizations have supported the CPAPD’s work and many Board Directors have actively participated in the CPAPD’s activities. They have made import contributions to the development of CPAPD’s work and to the building of a good peripheral and international environment for realization of the dream and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. From 2009 to 2013, more than 500 foreign NGO leaders and research institutes experts visited China, attended international conferences, large-scale peace activities or study tour at CPAPD’s invitation. At the same time, the CPAPD organized many delegations to visit other countries and completed about 200 research papers. The CPAPD has carefully developed its brand products, such as the Observance of the International Day of Peace, played the overall advantages of three-dimensional diplomacy and actively sought the consensus between China and its neighboring countries and promoted the friendship between the peoples and the development of state to state relations; made efforts to nurture the China-U.S. Civil Society Peace Forum, the China-African Civil Society Peace and Development Forum, the Civil Society Peace Forum of the BRICS countries and has shaped up bilateral and multilateral exchange and dialogue mechanisms and conducted and institutionalized people’s diplomacy so as to deepen the understanding and cooperation with the organizations in the filed of peace and development. The CPAPD attaches great importance to the development of exchanges and cooperation with NGOs and research institutions in neighboring countries, Western countries and influential developing countries and injected positive energy into the promotion of understanding and cooperation among people and development of state to state relations. The CPAPD sends delegations to attend the International NGO Conferences such as the NPT Review Conference in UN, the Hiroshima World Peace Conference, Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs, World Peace Council Conference, China-Africa Peoples’ Forum, the World Social Forum etc, at which the CPAPD representatives delivered speeches on China’s peaceful development, China’s peaceful foreign policy, China’s stand on international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and nuclear security. The Joint Conference examined and approved the Working Report of the 8thJoint Conference of Member Organizations.
The Joint Conference elected CPAPD new leadership: He Luli, Vice-Chairperson of the 9thand 10thStanding Committee, NPC was elected Honorary President; Li Wuwei, Vice-Chairman of the 11thNational Committee, CPPCC was elected Honorary Vice-President; Han Qide, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee, CPPCC was elected CPAPD President.
Ma Biao, Vice Chairman of the National Committee, CPPCC; Lu Hao, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental and Resources Protection, NPC; Tie Ning, President of Chinese Writers Association; Yu Hongjun, Vice-Minister of the International Department, CCCPC; Lin Yifu, former World Bank Senior Vice President; An Qiyi, Vice-Chairman of All-China Federation of Industrialists and Businessmen; Chen Jingwei, Deputy Director of the Economic Committee, the National Committee, CPPCC; Lin Huiqing, Assistant Minister of Education; He Jun, former Assistant Minister of the International Department, CCCPC and Xue Cheng, Vice-President of the Buddhist Association of China were elected CPAPD Vice-Presidents.
Wang Guangtao, former Chairman of the Committee on Environmental and Resources Protection, NPC; Mao Rubai, former Chairman of the Committee on Environmental and Resources Protection, NPC; Qi Rang, former Vice-Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology; Ma Wenpu, former Vice-Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee, NPC; Liu Jingqin, former Vice-Minister of the International Department, CCCPC; Huan Guoying, Former Vice-Minister of the International Department, CCCPC; Liu Bainian, Honorary President of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association; Yu Zhengui, former Vice-President of China Islamic Association; Hu Side, former President of China Academy of Engineering Physics, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Pan Zhenqiang, former Director of the Institute of Strategic Studies of the National Defense University were elected CPAPD advisors.
The Joint Conference formed the Second Board of Directors with 184 members and the Standing Board of Directors with 40 members. According to the social and professional backgrounds of each member, the Second Board of Directors establishes 5 professional committees consisting of celebrities from political, academic, business, medical and cultural circles. The establishment of the professional committees bears great importance and will inject positive energy for the CPAPD development and enhance the work of the people’s peace diplomacy to a new height.
CPAPD President Han Qide delivered a speech on behalf of the new leadership, in which he pointed out that the CPAPD has become the largest civil peace organization in China, and by giving full play to its characteristics and advantages, has become the pioneer in China’s people’s diplomacy and important force in international NGO platform. He urges the CPAPD to keep pace with the times, constantly sum up its experiences, innovate ideas and improve work so as to make more positive contributions to creating a good peripheral and international environment for China’s reform and development. The CPAPD should continue to expand foreign exchange platforms, improve the layout of the work, develop more brand products and enhance the social influence of the featured activities like the Observance of the International Day of Peace, and make international friends so as to lay a solid social foundation and get people’s support for the long term development of state to state relations.
