New Engine for Future Reform
The Communist Party of China (CPC) will set up a central leading team for \"comprehensively deepening reform\", it was announced after a key CPC meeting closed on November 12. The team will be in charge of designing reform on an overall basis, arranging and coordinating reform, pushing forward reform as a whole, and supervising the implementation of reform plans, according to a communique issued after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
Expansion of Shaoxing
The State Council approved that Shaoxing County was cancelled and replaced by Keqiao District, and Shangyu City was cancelled and replaced by Shangyu District. Therefore, the urban area of Shaoxing City will expand from 362 square kilometers to 2942 square kilometers with population increasing from 0.653 million to 2.161 million, rising to the second largest city of Zhejiang province. It’s only an example of cities’ expansion activities in China.
Suntech Hopes of Revival
The Chinese creditors of Suntech Power Holdings (STP) have approved the sale of its main Chinese subsidiary Wuxi Suntech Power Co to Shunfeng Photovoltaic International Ltd, a Hong Kong-listed solar company, for RMB 3 billion in a local court in Suntech’s hometown Wuxi city. Once the world’s largest solar-panel maker, Suntech defaulted on USD 541 million in U.S. convertible bonds in March which led to bankruptcy proceedings in China.
Urgent Task for Energy Saving
Statistics show that Carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP fell by 6.6 percent and the total target of carbon dioxide emissions has been completed 38.8% in the first two years of the 12th Five Year Plan (2011-2015). Although the figures have reduced gradually, it still lags behind of the original target. Meanwhile environmental pollution causes concern of the public, especially the heavy haze around the nation. It has been an urgent task for China to fulfill its aim of energy saving and emission reduction timely.
