1）Limbering up for the race that brings couples closer together. Thats if the wife or person being carried makes the grade at the weigh-in.

Mike Bushell： A crucial moment because any wife who weighs less than the 50 kilograms has to then make up the weight with tins of baked beans， but， Steph， I think were safe， OK？

Back on the start line it was obvious we were up against experienced athletes here， who take this race very seriously.

Man A： Weve done a lot of training. I picked her up in the kitchen and jumped around the kitchen for a little bit.

Woman A： Yeah， Ive been watching the telly standing in my head to prepare for the blood rushing to my head. So I think were ready.

Steph McGovern： Look at how fit everyone is here. Arent they scaring you good？

Mike： Yeah， but no one before has ever had the woman carrying the man， so were gonna enter sporting history.

On the start line， it was obvious that the Estonian hold was going to be the fastest， but also the most 2）precarious.

Steph： Can we go with the very traditional way I call the 3）piggy-back method？

Mike： It might not be as quick， but I think its safer， . . .

Steph： Yeah.

Judge： Three…Two…One…Go！

斯蒂芬：我們能采取傳統(tǒng)的方式——我說(shuō)的“背負(fù)式”來(lái)進(jìn)行嗎？

麥克：這樣可能不會(huì)很快，但我覺(jué)得更安全……

斯蒂芬：對(duì)。

裁判：三……二……一……出發(fā)！

Luckily for Steph you dont have to be married anymore to enter this race. Anyone can carry anyone. But we would make sporting history if Steph could become the first woman to carry a man up and around the 250 metre jump course.

Mike： Up the hill. Its the hardest bit.

She was also carrying top weight. I was the heaviest “wife” at 74 kilos. Wife-carrying races started in Finland in the 1990s to make sure we never forget one of their most notorious criminals， whose gang raided villages for their wives. Thankfully today everyone is willing， even if it can still be daring， and helmets are worn for good reason. Thankfully， Judy， on the left here， who was taken to the hospital， wasnt seriously injured.

For Steph and I， the last few 4）furlongs were lonely and wet， but despite my apparent 5）fidgeting in the saddle， Steph summoned up immense strength and roared on by the crowd， got us across the line and into the wife-carrying history books.

Steph： I hate you！

對(duì)于斯蒂夫來(lái)說(shuō)幸運(yùn)的是，并不需要成為某人的“老婆”才能來(lái)參加比賽。只要有個(gè)搭檔就行。但如果斯蒂芬能夠成為第一個(gè)背著男人并且完成250米跑跳全程的女人，我們就創(chuàng)造了歷史。

麥克：上坡。這是最難的一段。

而且她還負(fù)重最大。我是最重的“老婆”，74公斤?！氨忱掀拧北荣惼鹪从谏鲜兰o(jì)90年代的芬蘭，為的是讓人們不要忘記那群臭名昭著的罪犯，那伙人偷襲村子搶妻。讓人欣慰的是，今天每個(gè)人都是自愿的——盡管挺需要勇氣的——為了安全被背人需要帶上頭盔。那是朱迪，鏡頭里左邊的那位，要被送往醫(yī)院，但幸運(yùn)的是傷得不重。

對(duì)于斯蒂芬和我而言，最后的百來(lái)米（譯者注：英國(guó)此次比賽的全程為380米，包括上下坡各15米和其他障礙設(shè)置）又冷清又濕滑，但盡管我動(dòng)來(lái)動(dòng)去的，在觀眾的叫喊聲中，斯蒂芬還是動(dòng)用全身力氣前進(jìn)，我們沖過(guò)了終點(diǎn)，成功完成“背老婆”運(yùn)動(dòng)歷史上的創(chuàng)舉。斯蒂芬：我恨你！
