Hello，I’m Severn Suzuki speaking for E.C.O.—The Environmental Children’s Organisation.

大家好，我是Severn Suzuki，我代表兒童環(huán)境組織來(lái)此演講。

We are a group of twelve and thirteenyear-olds from Canada trying to make a difference:Vanessa Suttie，Morgan Geisler，Michelle Quigg and me.We raised all the money ourselves to come six thousand miles to tell you adults you must change your ways.Coming here today，I have no hidden agenda.I am fighting for my future.

我們是一個(gè)十三、四歲的小群體，我們想改變些什么：Vanessa Suttie，Morgan Geisler，Michelle Quigg 和我。我們自己掙錢支持我們來(lái)到這里，旅行5000 英里只為告訴你們成年人，你們必須改變你們的生活方式。今天我來(lái)到這里，我背后沒(méi)有任何經(jīng)紀(jì)人，我們?yōu)槲覀兊奈磥?lái)而戰(zhàn)。

Losing my future is not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market.I am here to speak for all generations to come.

失去未來(lái)不像落選選舉或者股市浮動(dòng)那么簡(jiǎn)單，我來(lái)到這里是為了將來(lái)所有的世代而演講。

I am here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard.

我演講是為了世界所有忍受饑餓的兒童，而他們的哭泣卻無(wú)人聽(tīng)見(jiàn)。

I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet because they have nowhere left to go.We cannot afford to be not heard.

我為這個(gè)行星上無(wú)數(shù)正在垂死的動(dòng)物而演講，因?yàn)樗鼈儙缀跻呀?jīng)無(wú)處容身了。

I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone.I am afraid to breathe the air because I don’t know what chemicals are in it.

我現(xiàn)在害怕曬太陽(yáng)，因?yàn)槌粞鯇映霈F(xiàn)了空洞。我現(xiàn)在害怕呼吸空氣，因?yàn)槲也恢滥抢镉卸嗌倩瘜W(xué)物質(zhì)。

I used to go fishing in Vancouver with my dad until just a few years ago we found the fish full of cancers.And now we hear about animals and plants going extinct every day—vanishing forever.

以前和我爸爸經(jīng)常在溫哥華釣魚，但在近幾年卻發(fā)現(xiàn)魚的身上到處是癌細(xì)胞。我們每天都會(huì)聽(tīng)說(shuō)有的動(dòng)物和植物絕種，那是永遠(yuǎn)消失的事情。

In my life，I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals，jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterfilies，but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.

我一生的夢(mèng)想就是能看到成群的野生動(dòng)物，茂盛的叢林和大片的雨林中到處是鳥(niǎo)類和蝴蝶在飛舞。但是現(xiàn)在我想知道我們這些小孩是否還能再看到它們？

Did you have to worry about these little things when you were my age?

在您那個(gè)年代，您曾經(jīng)擔(dān)心過(guò)我們現(xiàn)在擔(dān)心的事嗎？

All this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions.I’m only a child and I don’t have all the solutions，but I want you to realise，neither do you!

所有這一切就發(fā)生在我們眼前，然而我們還是一直向大自然無(wú)度索取我們所需要的。我僅僅是個(gè)孩子，我不知道該怎么辦。但我們這些孩子——這個(gè)星球的未來(lái)需要讓您認(rèn)識(shí)到，您不能說(shuō)沒(méi)辦法！

You don’t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer.You don’t know how to bring salmon back up a dead stream.You don’t know how to bring back an animal now extinct.And you can’t bring back forests that once grew where there is now desert.If you don’t know how to fix it，please stop breaking it!

您不知道怎么去修補(bǔ)大氣的臭氧空洞，您也不知道怎么去從死亡的河流中拯救魚類，您更不知道如何把滅絕的動(dòng)物救活，您也不能把沙漠中從前完整的森林帶回來(lái)。如果您不知道如何拯救，那么請(qǐng)您停止破壞吧！

Here，you may be delegates of your governments，business people，organisers，reporters or poiticians—but really you are mothers and fathers，brothers and sisters，aunts and uncles—and all of you are somebody’s child.

在這里，您可能是政府、商業(yè)人士的代表、組織者、記者或政客。但你們也是父親和母親、兄弟和姐妹、阿姨和叔叔，對(duì)于上一代人而且，你們也是孩子。

I’m only a child yet I know we are all part of a family，five billion strong，in fact，30 million species strong and we all share the same air，water and soil—borders and governments will never change that.

我只是一個(gè)小孩，但我知道我們都是一個(gè)大家庭的成員，超過(guò)60 億人的大家庭，以及超過(guò)三千萬(wàn)物種的大家庭，政府和國(guó)界永遠(yuǎn)都無(wú)法改變這個(gè)事實(shí)。

I’m only a child yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal.

我身為小孩都知道，我們?cè)诘厍虻哪赣H懷中都是孩子。我們應(yīng)該為了相同的目的進(jìn)行相同的行動(dòng)！

In my anger，I am not blind，and in my fear，I am not afraid to tell the world how I feel.

然而事實(shí)卻讓我很憤怒，但我也很清醒，我雖然害怕，但我敢于告訴世界我真實(shí)的感受。

In my country，we make so much waste，we buy and throw away，buy and throw away，and yet northern countries will not share with the needy.Even when we have more than enough，we are afraid to lose some of our wealth，afraid to share.

在我的祖國(guó)，我們制造了如此之多的垃圾，我們購(gòu)買商品，我們隨之丟棄，買來(lái)，再丟棄。然而有些國(guó)家，有些人，卻不會(huì)分享給那些真正需要的人們，甚至他們擁有的遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)超過(guò)自身需要的時(shí)候。他們害怕分享，害怕失去自己的財(cái)富。

In Canada，we live the privileged life，with plenty of food，water and shelter—we have watches，bicycles，computers and television sets.

在加拿大，他們過(guò)著特權(quán)般的生活，他們有很多食物、房子和水。他們擁有很多手表、汽車、各種電器和奢侈品。

Two days ago here in Brazil，we were shocked when we spent some time with some children living on the streets.And this is what one child told us:“I wish I was rich and if I were，I would give all the street children food，clothes，medicine，shelter and love and affection.”

在巴西，我被2 天前見(jiàn)到的情景震驚了，那時(shí)我和當(dāng)?shù)氐男『⒃谕嫠＃渲幸粋€(gè)小孩說(shuō)：“我希望我能富裕起來(lái)，然后我會(huì)給這個(gè)街道所有的小孩飯吃，給他們衣服穿、醫(yī)療、住房和愛(ài)”。

If a child on the street who has nothing，is willing to share，why are we who have everyting still so greedy?

如果一個(gè)孩子在自己一無(wú)所有的時(shí)候都能愿意分享，為什么擁有一切的大人卻如此貪婪？

I can’t stop thinking that these children are my age，that it makes a tremendous difference where you are born，that I could be one of those children living in the Favellas of Rio;I could be a child starving in Somalia;a victim of war in the Middle East or a beggar in India.

我永遠(yuǎn)不能忘記這些和我同齡的孩子，當(dāng)你出生的時(shí)候，他和我們真的很不相同，我也許生活在貧民窟，也可能是終日餓著肚子的小孩，也可能是中東戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的犧牲品，或者印度的小乞丐。

I’m only a child yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on ending poverty and finding environmental answers，what a wonderful place this earth would be!

我只是一個(gè)小孩，然而我知道，要是把花在戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)上的錢，用在找尋環(huán)境問(wèn)題答案上來(lái)，或用在結(jié)束貧窮并找到解決的方案上來(lái)，這個(gè)星球?qū)⑹莻€(gè)多么美好的地方啊！

At school，even in kindergarten，you teach us to behave in the world.You teach us:not to fight with others，to respect others，to clean up our mess，not to hurt other creatures，to share—not be greedy.

在學(xué)校，甚至在幼稚園，你們大人教我們?nèi)绾翁幨溃銈兏嬖V我們不要打架，要尊重對(duì)方。找出答案，解決矛盾。去分享，而不是貪婪。

Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do?

你們大人為什么去做與你們教導(dǎo)孩子相反的事情呢？

Do not forget why you’re attending these conferences，who you’re doing this for—we are your own children.You are deciding what kind of world we will grow up in.Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying“everyting’s going to be alright”，“we’re doing the best we can”and“it’s not the end of the world”.

不要忘記你們?yōu)楹味鴣?lái)到這里開(kāi)會(huì)，你們?yōu)檎l(shuí)做事情？我們是你們的下一代，你們正在決定我們將要在一個(gè)什么樣的環(huán)境中成長(zhǎng)，父母需要能夠?qū)捨亢⒆觽?，告訴他們“一切都沒(méi)問(wèn)題，那不是世界末日，我們正在盡其所能的改變”。

But I don’t think you can say that to us anymore.Are we even on your list of priorities? My father always says“You are what you do，not what you say.”

但我不能再相信這樣的話了，孩子們還在你們的優(yōu)選名單嗎？我爸爸總是說(shuō)：“聽(tīng)其言，觀其行，是認(rèn)識(shí)一個(gè)人最好的方法”。

Well，what you do makes me cry at night.You grown-ups say you love us.I challenge you，please make your actions reflect your words.Thank you for listening!

然而，你們所做的事讓我在夜晚哭泣，你們成年人說(shuō)你們愛(ài)我們，我不會(huì)再相信了，因?yàn)橹挥行袆?dòng)和語(yǔ)言的合一，才是找回信任和未來(lái)的唯一方法！謝謝！
