Ron Mueck (born 1958) is an Australian sculptor working inthe United Kingdom. His early career was as a model maker andpuppeteer for children's television and films. In 1996 he transitionedto fine art and was appreciated by Charles Saatchi, one of the mostinfluential art collectors of our time and founder of the globaladvertising agency. In 1998 Mueck made his first solo exhibition,and since then his works have been exhibited in the museums andexhibitions worldwide. Often naked and suspended in states of selfconsciousness,introspection or deep contemplation, Mueck'ssculptures present both emotional and physical states of exposure.He uses silicone, polyurethane, styrene, fibreglass, ed. to achieveremarkable verisimilitude. Mueck's sculptures faithfully reproducethe minute detail of the human body, but play with scale to producedisconcertingly jarring visual images.
