Stratovarius創(chuàng)立于1984年，其樂隊名是Stratocaster和Stradivarius這兩個單詞的組合:Stratocaster是美國芬達公司出品的一種吉他，Stradivarius則專指史上最出名的小提琴制作師安東尼奧·斯特拉蒂瓦里及其家族成員制作的小提琴，這種琴音色飽滿，價格昂貴。從名字上不難看出，該樂隊走的是一種古典與重金屬相融合的音樂風格。雖然Stratovarius的成員因各種原因幾經(jīng)變動，但其并未因此而頻繁轉變自己的曲風。1987年，Stratovarius完成了第一盤樣帶的制作，隨后在德國、瑞士、荷蘭、芬蘭、希臘以及日本隆重地展開了一系列巡回演出，其先后推出的多張專輯都大受世界各地樂迷的好評。
