Government Promises to Halt Illegal Logging in Amazon

The photographing of a previously-lost tribe in the depths of the Amazon rainforest has prompted government officials in Peru to take action to ensure their safety and the continuation of their way of life.

The aerial pictures were taken just beyond the country's border with Brazil and show natives， some with their bodies painted red， shooting at the plane with bows and arrows. Government photographers snapped the natives during a fact-finding flight to prove that dozens of isolated tribes still live in the region.

According to a humanitarian group that monitors indigenous peoples in the Amazon， as many as 500 people are believed to make their home in the area. Anthropologists were unable to name the tribe in question， but many believe the tribespeople were displaced from Peru by illegal loggers encroaching upon their land.

Now， authorities in the Peruvian state of Madre de Dios have announced that they will take action to halt illegal logging operations in the rainforest near the native's homelands. The loggers， searching for valuable and rare hardwoods， are often the first people to encounter the natives.
