Only one novel in the UK's top five this month， alongside a TV cookery book， books from Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson (Hammond's is better)， and the 2008 incarnation of the Guinness World Records 2008. More an institution than an annual， the Guinness World Records 2008features everything from the world's tallest building to the most basketballs being spun at one time by one person (28， if you're interested).

Sly Stallone's back as Vietnam veteran and all-around tough guy John Rambo in Rambo (The fourth in the series， though sharing the same name as the first). As per usual， the film is distinctly lacking in any form of plot or character development， instead focusing on racking up a higher body count than any other film in the series. The hackneyed plot involves a now-retired John Rambo joining up with a team of mercenaries to save Christian missionaries from Burmese militiamen. Don't expect anything fancy or even remotely sophisticated – this is a testosterone-filled， guns-and-guts guy flick.

在第四部《第一滴血》（名字和第一部一樣）中，史泰龍扮演的厲害越戰(zhàn)退伍士兵又回來了。和以往一樣，該片比其它任何一部續(xù)集都更關(guān)注肉搏，根本就沒什么情節(jié)和人物發(fā)展而言。

This month comes close， with trippy bassline house track What's It Gonna Be muscling its way in at number two. Forget about the lyrics and just listen to the great club track that lies behind them. Oh， and watch out for the Dancing Nerd in the hilarious music video.

Not a bad showing in the albums charts this time around – soft rock/pop band The Feeling top the charts with the relaxing， if repetitive， Join With Us， while soul songstress Amy Winehouse continues to a hold her spot in the top five with Back To Black. The highlight of the bunch， though， is Mark Ronson's genre-hopping collection of covers and guest appearances – the New York-based DJ has got together a crop of his finest showbiz mates， and had them cover each other's tunes. It's worth a laugh， that's for sure.

A novel and a cookbook here too， but， unlike the UK's obsession with biographies and opinion， America's first love seems to be self-help books. Despite my own personal belief that such books are a plague upon modern society， the authors must be doing something right. In Roizen's You: Staying Young， the anti-aging expert helps his readers to discover the secret of eternal youth， without the hassle of bathing in asses' milk or finding the Holy Grail. In Become A Better You， the perpetually smug Joel Osteen tells people how and why they suck at life， and what they can do to become the perfect specimens of mankind God intended them to be. Forgive me if I stick to my novels.

美國榜單上也有一本小說和一本烹飪書，不過和英國偏愛自傳和議論文不同的是，美國的首選是一本關(guān)于自助的書。雖然我個人認為這樣的書在現(xiàn)代社會簡直是個災難，但作家們肯定也有其道理的。在《You: Staying Young》這本書中，防衰老專家給讀者們提供了不必泡驢奶（古代宮廷的做法）和尋找圣杯就能永葆青春的秘方。而在《Become A Better You》中，總是自鳴得意的Joel Osteen解答了人們厭惡生活的困惑并給出了如何才能成為上帝眼中驕子的方法。如果我覺得自己的作品更勝一籌的話，那就請原諒我的自大吧。

An eclectic mix of movies at the top of the US charts， with possibly the worst of the bunch at the top. Vantage Point is a hodge-podge of different points of view， weaving a convoluted story around the attempted assassination of the President. The movie adaptation of the hugely popular Spiderwick Chronicles series is a great kid's film， full of fantasy and excitement， but not offering so much for older viewers. Jumper and Step Up 2: The Streets are both pretty good， the first a story about a young man who discovers the ability to teleport anywhere on the planet and the other a tale of love and romance set in a dance school， complete with energetic dance numbers. Comedy/mystery/sci-fi mess Fool’s Gold comes in at number five – a perfect example of generic boy-loses-girl-finds-hidden-treasure-map-takes-girl-and-saves-the-day-all-the-while-evading-bad-guys-and-cracking-jokes adventuring. Nothing special， but hey. It's fun for a while.

美國電影排行榜上的影片沒什么出彩的，而冠軍還可能是最差的?！禫antage Point》糾集了各類觀點，編造了一個令人費解的總統(tǒng)暗殺事件。改編自《The Spiderwick Chronicles》的電影還算一部妙趣橫生的兒童片，不過不太適合年長的觀眾?！禞umper》和《Step Up 2: The Streets》都很好，前者講述了一個年輕人通過心靈傳輸可以將自己送到世界任何一個地方的故事，而后者則講述的是舞蹈學校的浪漫愛情故事，當然也有很多精彩的舞蹈表演。排在第5位的是集喜劇、懸疑和科幻為一體的《Fool's Gold》，這是普通男孩失戀后找到寶藏然后獲芳心并打敗壞人而獲得英雄稱號的故事。這可謂是此類影片的絕佳典范。該片雖無特別之處，不過還是有樂子可尋的。

Okay… I'm going to convince myself here that Low is still in the number one position because either: A) all of America's CD presses have broken down and nothing better can be produced until they're fixed， or B) the massive success of Step Up 2 has prompted everyone in America to take up dancing. Because there is no way I can believe this song is there on merit alone. It's the WORST form of gangster hip-pop I've heard since… hmm… last month， come to think of it. Luckily， Chris Brown， Rihanna， Alicia Keys and Sara Bareilles all redeem this month's selection， each producing a decent track that is actually worthy of listening to.

好吧，我只能說《Low》之所以還是冠軍的理由可能是：美國所有的CD制造廠都倒閉了，在恢復營業(yè)前我們沒什么可聽的；要不就是《Step Up 2》過于成功而導致所有的美國人都去跳舞了。因為我實在找不出這首歌成為冠軍的理由。這是我聽過的最難聽的說唱，想想吧，上個月我就已經(jīng)聽過一次了。好在Craig Brown、Rihanna、Alicia Keys和Sara Bareilles彌補了榜單的缺陷，他們的歌都值得一聽。

At last – a chart where the artist that most deserves it is at the top. Sleep Through The Static is a classic example of soothing folksy pop tunes， classic coffee-shop-chillout music. In fact， March is a good month for the US Album charts – all of the top 5 are class albums. The real highlight of this collection is veteran jazz musician Herbie Hancock's album River: The Joni Letters， winner of the 2008 Album Of The Year Grammy. Believe me when I say he totally earned it.

這個冠軍可是名副其實啊?！禨leep Through The Static》是讓人身心舒暢的經(jīng)典流行樂，也是經(jīng)典的咖啡音樂。實際上，3月的美國上榜專輯都不錯。不過最突出的還是爵士樂高手Herbie Hancock的《River: The Joni Letters》，該專輯是2008年格萊美得主。相信我，他獲獎?wù)媸菍嵵撩麣w。

What is it with cookbooks at the moment? With the exception of Canada， it seems that the world has gone cookbook cuckoo. It makes me wonder about the state of the publishing industry， to be honest. Luckily， people in Australia still read novels， thank goodness. For March， they've picked a good selection of gritty contemporary fiction – Khaled Hosseini still holds court with his excellent tales The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns， while James Patterson， master of the suspense thriller， rules the roost with 7th Heaven， the seventh Women's Murder Club mystery co-authored with Maxine Paetro.

怎么還有烹飪書呢？除了加拿大外，好像全球都籠罩在烹飪的氛圍中。我不禁要懷疑目前出版業(yè)的形勢了。好在澳大利亞人還會看小說，真是謝天謝地。而且他們還非常有眼光地再次讓Khaled Hosseini的杰作登上榜單。而恐怖小說大師James Patterson與Maxine Paetro合著的《7th Heaven》則摘得桂冠，該書是其兩個暢銷偵探系列之一“女子謀殺俱樂部系列”的第七本。

Two unique entries in the Aussie box office last month. In Definitely， Maybe， single father Will Hayes， played by Ryan Reynolds， tries to explain to his 11-year-old daughter how he met her mother. A fairly lackluster rom-com， Definitely， Maybe doesn't hold a candle to The Bucket List， a cracking drama in which Hollywood legends Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman break out of a terminal cancer ward and head off across America on one last road trip. Watch it， It's awesome.

澳大利亞電影排行榜上出現(xiàn)了2部獨特的電影。《Definitely， Maybe》講述的是名為Will（Ryan Reynolds飾）的父親試圖向他11歲的女兒講述自己遇見她母親的故事。作為一部不算特別出色的浪漫喜劇片，《Definitely， Maybe》最終輸給了《The Bucket List》。后者講述的是由好萊塢傳奇人物Jack Nicholson和Morgan Freeman扮演的癌癥患者在去世前離開美國進行人生中最后一次旅行的故事。這部片子棒的很。

If I just pretend， for one blissful moment， that Crank That doesn't exist and has been replaced by a less annoying piece of musical tripe – say， the theme tune to Barney The Dinosaur - then this is a good top five. Sure， Untouched isn't what it could be， but hey. All artists are allowed the occasional off day. Pictures Of You is a soulful pop-rock track that does everything right， but is flawed by being just a little bit unoriginal. Rihanna just can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment， and The Last Goodnight is no exception. Topping the chart is British popster and The X-Factor winner Leona Lewis， with Bleeding Love， a very generic but oddly soulful broken-heart lament.

如果我可以作假的話，那么《Crank That》就不會存在而是被落榜的《Barney The Dinosaur》取而代之，那么這就是個完美的榜單了。當然，《Untouched》名不符實，不過所有的藝術(shù)家都有權(quán)利暫時休息會兒（所以它上榜了）?！禤ictures Of You》是首熱情的流行搖滾樂，只可惜缺少了點兒創(chuàng)造性。Rihanna和The Last Goodnight都是實至名歸啊。不過冠軍是《The X-Factor》（電視節(jié)目《英國偶像》）的贏家Leona Lewis的《Bleeding Love》，這是首普通卻感人肺腑的傷心情歌。

In keeping with their positions on the singles chart， it's not surprising to find both Leona Lewis's debut album and Rihanna's latest effort occupying third and fourth， respectively. Also unsurprising is Jack Johnson's Number 1 spot. What did come a bit out of left field is the inclusion of Canadian songstress K.D. Lang's Watershed， a disappointing new effort that lacks a lot of her usual vibe and energy， and just feels… well… flat. The other surprise is the inclusion of Thriller – despite shifting more copies than most other albums， it's not eligible for inclusion in many charts due to being a re-release.

看到Leona Lewis的處女大碟和Rihanna的新作分別登上第3和第4的寶座絲毫不讓人驚奇。當然，Jack Johnson成為冠軍也是情理之中。但是，女歌手K.D. Lang的《Watershed》還是讓人失望了，專輯里缺少了她以往的靈感和活力，讓人覺得很平淡。令人吃驚的是《Thriller》竟然也榜上有名——盡管銷售量比其它專輯都好，但是作為一個再版專輯，在多個排行榜露面還是讓人無法接受。

Ahh， at last， a top five without a bloody cookbook in it. Law novel supremo John Grisham tops the heap with The Appeal， and， of course， Khaled Hosseini makes another appearance – the charts just can't seem to shake him at the moment. But the shining jewel out of these five novels is Elizabeth Kays' Late Nights On Air – the story of a cynical TV presenter who ends up working in a small town as a radio host. With a cast of eccentric characters， this little beauty deserves to become a classic. It really does.

終于看到一個沒有烹飪書的書籍榜單啦！法律小說作家John Grisham的小說《The Appeal》奪得冠軍，當然，Khaled Hosseini再次出現(xiàn)，看來各類書籍排行榜想擺脫他還需費些時日啊。不過真正耀眼的還是Elizabeth Kays的《Late Nights on Air》，講的是一個憤事嫉俗的電視主播最終落腳一個小鎮(zhèn)成為當?shù)仉娕_主持的故事。該書集合了一群性格古怪的人物，的確，堪稱杰作。

Jumper manages to appear in its fourth Top 5， as the Canadian box office mirrors that of the US. Same films， slightly different order. I still find it odd that Vantage Point is number one， though maybe the fact that it won a clutch of awards for marketing and advertising can explain that. It's nice to see Fool's Gold there too – it proves that generic fluff entertainment does have a place in modern cinema.

當加拿大抄襲美國電影榜單后，《Jumper》第4次出現(xiàn)在了前5名中。同樣一部電影，只是次序發(fā)生了變化。對于《Vantage Point》奪冠，我還是覺得有點兒怪，也許是因為它在市場和廣告方面獲利菲薄吧。很開心看到《Fool's Gold》也在榜單上，這證明了普通的娛樂電影在現(xiàn)代電影中還是占有一席之地的。

Odd choice of Number 1 – Conquest has been out for a while， and features all the hallmarks we expect from The White Stripes. Zany video， nigh-nonsensical lyrics， and just a bit too funny to be taken seriously. AE is a boring， simpering tune that is so saccharine-sweet it makes you want to vomit. What Time Is It is one of those songs that is far too happy and energetic to not be likeable， and anyone under the age of twelve should probably get a copy. Emmanuel's Swagga deserves a mention for being the only male RB artist in April's charts to NOT be peddling utter trash， while Kate Nash tries just a bit too hard to reassure us she has a British accent in Foundations， and instead winds up being far too annoying for mere description.

《Conquest》又卷土重來了，該曲囊括了所有我們期待The White Stripes所能給予的內(nèi)容。要是我們對荒唐的錄影帶和毫無意義的歌詞過分認真的話，那就太可笑了?！禔E》讓人厭惡，不自然的調(diào)子甜的發(fā)膩，簡直讓人想吐。《What Time Is It》過于歡快和積極，12歲以下的人可以考慮購買。作為4月榜上的唯一一個男性RB歌手，Emmanuel的《Swagga》值得一提，至少不難聽啊。而Kate Nash在《Foundations》中竭力強調(diào)自己有英國口音的做法讓人煩得懶的提了。

Despite the presence of Justin Timberlake's Futuresex/Love Sounds， last month's round of albums aren't too bad. Arden Jann's collection of retro covers is fantastic – her version of California Dreamin' is particularly worthy of note. Fall Out Boy hits one of his career highlights with Infinity On High， and Norah Jones' awesome blend of country music with just about every other musical genre out there makes Not Too Late one of the best albums mentioned last month. Good choices， Canada. Pity about Justin， though.

除了Justin Timberlake的《Futuresex/Love Sounds》外，上個月的專輯還都不差。Arden Jann的懷舊翻唱歌曲經(jīng)典極了，尤其是《California Dreamin'》最值得一聽；Fall Out Boy的《Infinity On High》成為了他們演唱生涯的里程碑；而Norah Jones那融合了各種流派又別具一格的鄉(xiāng)村音樂是上個月最好的專輯之一?！鞍裆嫌欣怼卑。幽么?。雖然，Justin讓人失望了。
