I Am the Witness

Witnesses are valuable to the police. A witness is somebody who is actually present when something happens and sees what happens. The police usually like to question all witnesses as soon as possible after a crime， accident or other event.

目擊證人對于警方而言十分有價值。目擊者是指在事發(fā)現場目睹了事發(fā)過程的人。在犯罪、事故及其它一些事件發(fā)生后，警方通常會盡可能及時地向目擊者訊問情況。

Situation: 情景

At midnight， a lady had just paid her money in a supermarket and was leaving when a man entered the supermarket and held it up. She witnessed the robbery. The police asked her to go to the police station to question her as a witness the next day...

Police: I understand you were the key witness for the robbery.

警官：我了解到你是這起搶劫案的主要目擊者。

Woman: Yes， you know it happened at midnight and I was the only other person in the supermarket besides the staff.

女目擊者：是的，當時除了超市出納員之外，就我一個人。

Police: Are you okay to answer some questions for me?

警官：你能回答我一些問題嗎？

Woman: Sure. I don't know how much help I'll be. He made me get on the ground so I didn't get a very good look at him.

女目擊者：當然可以。我不知道我能有多大幫助。他逼我趴在地上所以我沒怎么看他。

Police: Was he carrying a weapon?

警官：他攜有武器是嗎？

Woman: Yes， he had a pistol in his back pocket. He threatened to use it， but I doubt it was loaded.

女目擊者：有，他的后兜里有把手槍。他恐嚇說會開槍，但是我懷疑槍里沒有子彈。

Police: What makes you say that?

警官：為什么這么說？

Woman: He looked like a teenager. Probably eighteen or maybe younger.

女目擊者：他看上去就是個半大孩子。大概十八或者還不到。

Police: Can you describe him for me?

警官：能描述一下他的特征嗎？

Woman: He must be a native speaker because I recognized his accent as local. Probably five or six feet tall. He was wearing a black mask and sunglasses. I can't remember what else he was wearing.

女目擊者：我能聽出他的本地口音，應該是本地人。大概有5、6英尺高。他用黑布遮了臉，還戴著墨鏡。其它穿戴我記不清了。

Police: Did he talk directly to you? I mean， did he ask you for your money or anything?

警官：他直接跟你講話了嗎？我是說，他有沒有向你索要錢物？

Woman: No， he just told me to get on the ground. That's all I know. I'm running late for a class. Is it okay if I go now?

女目擊者：沒有，他只讓我趴在地上。我就知道這么多。我一會兒還有課，現在我能走了嗎？

Police: I just want to get your name and phone number. If you think of anything else， please notify us.

警官：我想留一下你的姓名和電話號碼。如果想起其它線索，請及時聯系我們。

Woman: Sure， sir.

女目擊者：沒問題，警官。
