小瓊：上個月，我們聊了一部來自雅典的《蝴蝶夫人》，就在雅典古老的衛(wèi)城腳下阿迪庫斯奧德翁演出。奧德翁基本上算是個“音樂堂”，最初的設計是有木質(zhì)屋頂?shù)?。但任何研究古代歷史的學生都知道，用于戲劇表演和政治集會的希臘露天劇場。

小薇：我們都知道半圓形希臘劇院美妙的聲學效果，但現(xiàn)在，我真擔心在大理石或石頭上坐幾個小時的舒適度。

小瓊：好吧，我們還應該記住，直到1876 年，隨著拜羅伊特歌劇節(jié)的開幕，當年修建的劇院里的座椅仍然是木制的。對于坐在那里看完一部（或多部）瓦格納制作的觀眾來說，那不可能是舒服的！

小薇：“觀眾舒適”的概念，包括今天風靡一時、在每個座位下面設有獨立通風口的高科技設施，在100 年前是不存在的！

小瓊：所以現(xiàn)在我想重點介紹另一個遠方的“希臘劇院”——該建筑位于巴塞羅那，是每年夏天該市舉辦希臘藝術節(jié)最常使用的場館。1929 年，加泰羅尼亞建筑師拉蒙·勒溫托斯在巴塞羅那世博會之際建造了一個古希臘劇院風格的場館。在后來的幾十年里，由于內(nèi)戰(zhàn)和社會動蕩，該場館年久失修，直到1976 年，巴塞羅那市政府才開始在這里組織演出。自此以后，這個一年一度的藝術節(jié)擴大了規(guī)模，在城市周邊的許多場所舉辦。

小瓊：事實上，自1891 年成立以來，加泰羅尼亞奧菲歐合唱團一直非常積極地維持著這座城市的文化生活。合唱團甚至規(guī)劃修建了加泰羅尼亞現(xiàn)代主義的瑰寶、現(xiàn)在被聯(lián)合國教科文組織列為世界遺產(chǎn)的加泰羅尼亞音樂宮（建于1905 年至1908年）。這是一個非常具有創(chuàng)新意識的團體，擁有室內(nèi)合唱團、成人合唱團和一些合唱培訓項目。

小薇：加泰羅尼亞奧菲歐合唱團確實是多才多藝的——他們先是在室內(nèi)沉浸式劇院表演了福雷的《安魂曲》（7 月14 日至16 日），又在希臘劇院舉行美國作曲家大衛(wèi)·朗的《國家的囚徒》的西班牙首演（7 月22 日）?！秶业那敉健肥抢蕦ω惗喾摇顿M岱里奧》致敬、回應的新作。

小瓊：在歐洲的夏天，太陽要到很晚才會落下。朗的作品實際上要到晚上10 點才開演（大約與那里的人們用晚餐的時間相同）。

Joan： Last month I reported about a production ofMadama Butterfly from Athens， right at the foot of theAcropolis at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Odeonsare basically “music halls” originally enclosed with awooden roof. But any student of ancient history alsoknows about the open-air Greek theaters for spokendrama and political gatherings.

Valery： We all know about fantastic acoustics of thesemi-circular Greek theater， but these days， I wonderabout the level of comfort sitting for many hours onmarble or stone.

Joan： Well， we should also remember that as late as1876， with the opening of the Bayreuth Festspielhaus，seats were still made of wood. That couldn’t possiblybe comfortable for audiences sitting through one （ormore） of Wagner’s music-dramas！

Valery： The idea of “audience comfort，” including airvents underneath each seat that is all the rage today，was non-existent a hundred years ago！

Joan： So now I want to highlight another “GreekTheater” built far away—in Barcelona， heavily usedevery summer for the city’s Festival Grec. In 1929， aCatalan architect Ramon Reventós built a venue inthe style of an ancient Greek theater on the occasionof the Barcelona International Exposition. In lateryears， due to civil war and social turmoil， the place"was in disrepair until 1976， when the city organizedperformances in the venue. The annual festival hassince expanded， presenting in many venues aroundthe city.

Valery： I see some highlights this year featuringchorus， which enjoys a strong tradition in Barcelona.I’ve heard about the Orfeo Catalá.

Joan： Indeed， this choral association has beenvery active in sustaining the city’s cultural life sinceits founding in 1891. The chorus even instigatedand now owns the Palau de la Música Catalana（built between 1905 and 1908）， a jewel of CatalanModernism and now a UNESCO World Heritagesite. It’s a very innovative group， having chamberensembles， adult choruses and training programs.

Valery： They are indeed versatile—performingFauré’s Requiem as indoor immersive theater （July14–16）， and in the Spanish premiere of Americancomposer David Lang’s Prisoner of the State （July22） actually at the Grec Theater. Prisoner is Lang’sresponse to Beethoven’s Fidelio .

Joan： The sun sets very late in the evening duringthe summers in Europe. Lang’s piece will actuallystart at … 10 p.m. （about the same time people therethink about eating dinner）.
