·Overview of the theoretical research on Local Chronicles Study 2021Wang Xiaohang（4）

Abstract：The fruitful research achievements on Local Chronicles Study in the academic circle in 2021 mainly cover seven aspects：basic theoretical research on local chronicles，local chronicles management and practice research，chronicles compilation research，history of local chronicles and history of Local Chronicles Study，local chronicles review and research，study of characters of local chronicles，and study of local comprehensive yearbooks.The characteristics of the research on Local Chronicles Study this year are represented by more prominent trend of multi-disciplinary participation；wider attention from the primary-level and the general public；closer link between the focuses of Local Chronicles Study and the pulse of the times；more in-depth discussions on the functions of local chronicles and yearbooks，as well as homogeneity，stylization and fragmentation and other problems.To promote the healthy development of the research on Local Chronicles Study and the undertaking of local chronicles，it is necessary to strengthen the communication between the local chronicles workers and universities and other research institutions，deepen the multi-disciplinary participation in Local Chronicles Study，strengthen the development and research of local chronicles resources，and intensify the practice and research of chronicles and yearbooks compilation，so as to provide reference for the work of“annual yearbook”in the third round of chronicles compilation，and boost the development of research on Local Chronicles Study and the undertaking of local chronicles in an all-round way.

Abstract：The compilation project of Records of Poverty Reduction in China is of great significance for summarizing the great experience of China's poverty reduction endeavor and telling the good stories of poverty alleviation in the country，and enhancing the awareness of a poverty-free community with a shared future for mankind.Guangxi，as one of the main battlefields，occupies a very special position in the national fight against poverty.To reflect its timeliness and locality，the compilation of Records of Poverty Alleviation in Guangxi must combine the local reality，summarize the experience gained in the fight against poverty，and reasonably and scientifically set the content.

Abstract：Local chronicles play an underpinning role in carrying on the best of Chinese cultural traditions and heritage，and historical figures are its essential part.Records of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai，General Annals of Shanghai，and Annals of Qingpu County（1985-2000）all record Comrade Chen Yun who has made great contributions to the development of the cause of the Party and the people.Based on the above three materials and other literature，this paper attempts to interpret the chronicles text writing of Chen Yun's profile from four aspects：guiding ideology，data verification，accurate description and stylistic layout.

Abstract：Involution is an anthropological concept，referring to the phenomenon that a social or cultural model stagnates and spirals into a state of internal friction after reaching a certain form at a certain stage of development.The socalled involution of local chronicles means that the local chronicles have entered a state of "expansion with no development".To eliminate the influence of involution on the work of local chronicles，we should vigorously promote the rule of law in chronicles compilation，specify the functions of local chronicles institutions，establish the independent discipline of local chronicles，and formulate various "national standards" in the "chains" of chronicles compilation.

·On the compilation method of Chinese dialect records in the third round of chronicles compilation——Taking Lianzhou dialect as an exampleLiu Xianzhao（39）

Abstract：As the only dialect documented with phonetic system in the provincial，municipal and county records among the Chinese dialects in the Beibu Gulf region of Guangxi（Beihai，Qinzhou，and Fangchenggang included），Lianzhou dialect can be taken as a typical case to summarize and refine the compilation method of Chinese dialect records in the third round of chronicles compilation.There are some flaws in records of Lianzhou dialect in the first and second rounds of Guangxi chronicles compilation，mainly including paying excessive attention to the description of the origin and development of the dialect，and writing down the views that have not become widely recognized in the academic community into chronicles；improperly handling the issue how the dialect speakers call themselves.The compilation of local chronicles needs both experts and "multi-disciplinary scholars".The local chroniclers should avoid the above problems in compiling Chinese dialect records in the third round of chronicles compilation，make positive contributions to work related to verification of dialect corpus，the distribution range of dialect population and demographic statistics，and work with linguists to promote the research and inheritance of Chinese dialects.

·Preliminary research on dialect vocabulary in the old annals of Shanghai and its value—— Taking Volume of Songjiang Prefecture and Volume of Songjiang County as examplesChu Bannong（47）

Abstract：Book Series of Old Annals of Prefectures and Counties of Shanghai is also a research database of Shanghai（Jiangsu）language.This paper takes the dialect vocabulary recorded in it as the starting point of research.There are three kinds of materials for dialect vocabulary research in the book series：listed materials，unlisted materials，and materials written scatteringly in other volumes.The former two are the direct materials of dialect vocabulary research，while the latter is the indirect materials.The dialect vocabulary recorded in the annals，including almost all parts of speech，is closely related to agricultural production，rural life，and rural customs，permeated with strong characteristics of agricultural society and regional features of Shanghai and southern Jiangsu，and "most of the vocabulary and other language phenomena recorded are still in use in modern times".It is of great value to collect，compile，sort out and conduct research on dialect vocabulary in terms of discussing the historical evolution of dialects，geographical distribution of dialects，and even promoting the research process of the history of Chinese dialects.It is a long-term，arduous task to mine out resources of local records and promote dialect research.

Abstract：Credibility and readability are the core qualities of the achievements of the compilation of local comprehensive yearbooks.Credibility means that its evidence and reference functions should be identical with those of the original data.Readability refers to the convenience of reading and using.There are different understandings about the credibility and readability of the yearbook compilation nowadays，with some misunderstandings about the readability.By combining Provisions on the Compilation and Publication of Local Comprehensive Yearbooks，Supplementary Provisions on Several Issues Concerning the Compilation and Publication of Local Comprehensive Yearbooks，and the compilation practice of the yearbooks，this paper discusses the definition，significance and method of the credibility and readability of local comprehensive yearbooks and dialectical unification relations of the credibility and readability.

·Differentiation and analysis of the meaning of the place name NANTAO in modern ShanghaiFu Linxiang（62）

Abstract：NANTAO，a Shanghai’s place name in modern foreign language literature，means"south end"in Shanghai language.Its pronunciation may have come from Southern Fujian dialect or Cantonese，which was introduced in along with the opening of Shanghai.The transformation of the area referred to as NANTAO is similar to that of "Nanshi".It initially referred to the area east of Shanghai County and south of French Concession，which was expanded to Shanghai County in the early years of the Republic of China.After the establishment of Shanghai Special Municipality in 1928，it also referred to the Southern District of Shanghai.

·A man of resources knowing how to do business-On Shanghai Daotai Wu Jianzhang under changes of late QingWang Jian（67）

Abstract：Shanghai Daotai Wu Jianzhang came to Shanghai from Guangzhou during the turbulent era of the late Qing and became a local official from a comprador of a foreign firm.Having experienced many important historical events such as the Opium War，the Movement of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom，and the Xiaodaohui Uprising，he deeply demonstrated the image of "being resourceful，successful，and rich through money making".Wu Jianzhang was good at accumulating money，shrewd in handling affairs and proficient in communicating with foreigners，and was highly appreciated by the Qing court and all walks of life in the local areas owing to these abilities.His official career was extended until the outbreak of the Xiaodaohui Uprising.Wu was removed from the position of Shanghai Daotai due to the uprising，but it did not endanger his life.Such was a rare case in the past when local officials were confronted with such movement，which could also be attributed to his personal abilities.Therefore，focusing on the research of Shanghai Daotai Wu Jianzhang can be a better way to analyze the changes of individual fate under the turbulent situation of the late Qing，especially the compradors and officials at the trading ports such as Shanghai.

·Master Zibai of late Ming in ShanghaiWang Qiyuan，Chen Ji（77）

Abstract：Master Zibai was an eminent monk in the Buddhist history of the Ming and Qing dynasties.In his life of professing Buddhism，Zibai came to Shanghai to travel and stay over for many times，which was related to his feats of carving scriptures.However，many records have long been ignored by the academic community.Relevant materials are scattered in Zibai's works and local classic literature，which can be partially restored through the latest local research.In combination with religious and historical annals，this paper examines the exact locations of many temples where Master Zibai had traveled to.Through the interpretation of spatial geographic information，this paper clarifies the interrelationship among the places where he stayed，and then suggests that Shanghai was also an important choice for eminent monks to travel around in the late Ming dynasty，moreover，an area that cannot be ignored in the narrative of Buddhist history.

·Discussion on dog management policy in Shanghai during the Republic of ChinaDeng Xin（86）

Abstract：As the frontier of the political，economic and cultural development in modern China，Shanghai is a typical representative of the urban modernization of cities in modern China.With the increasing number of dogs in Shanghai during the Republic of China，a series of serious social problems incurred，such as filthy urban sanitation environment，disordered traffic，and rabies injuries.The urban dog management system was first implemented in the International Settlement，which provided a reference for the dog management system in the Chinese controlled districts in Shanghai.The management of domestic dogs and wild dogs was two important aspects of dog management in Shanghai during the Republic of China，including wearing dog tags，dog leads，and mouth masks，capturing wild dogs，and setting up wild dog pens and other measures.The plight of urban dog management in the Republic of China and the measures taken have certain reference value for today's dog management.
