The Bellevue School District believes strongly in the importance of the care and experiences that infants and toddlers receive during their early years. When NAC started designing the replacement Cherry Crest Elementary School, the first floor of a classroom pod was designed to support an Early Learning Center (ELC).
The Center is located in an area of the campus intended to be secure, highly observable, and convenient to parents for pick-up and drop-off.The ELC provides space for pre-school and before and after care in three distinct rooms. There is also an office and kitchen facility dedicated to this center.Internally, the ELC can be secured from the rest of the school, while still allowing the center access to school facilities,a green roof and outdoor courtyards.Immediately adjacent to the ELC are outdoor play areas for use by the pre-school classrooms. The Center operates a year-round schedule and was programmed as part of the Cherry Crest Elementary project.
The success of the Early Learning Center is a direct result of hands-on collaboration between all team members throughout the project. The vision for the Cherry Crest campus took place through a participatory process that allowed various stakeholders to tell the Cherry Crest story, ensuring the design reflects and supports the school community’s rich history and culture.
