        The Design and Manufacture of Micro-course

        Abstract: Micro-course is a new network teaching and learning mode. Through its definition and feature, micro-course can be applied better in the teaching process. Guided by “Learning Method”, this article may show its theory and procedure of micro-course, as well as discuss ideas and problems that we should pat attention to in its video-making so that teachers can conduct to design or record videos in their teaching function.

        I. Connotation of Micro-course

        Micro-course is an online video network educational course. Regarding teaching materials and teaching software as a teaching carrier, the teacher is able to project a various of learning functions served by students so as to be directed by teaching aims and teaching procedures (including teaching points, teaching difficulties and testing points, etc), or design for its teaching links.

        II. Features of Micro-course

        The manufacture of micro-course has following features:

        1.It is short and pithy;

        2.It can be taught in a short time to clarify teaching contents;

        3.It can express key points and difficulties clearly;

        4.It has a little resource capacity.

        III. Elements of Micro-course Design

        1. Micro-course should be predominated in instructing students’ knowledge points. The teaching form should be varied. It can transfer traditional teaching modes into video modes conducted by teachers in order to react level of some knowledge points.

        2. Aimed at some typical exercises or tests to solve or deduce, the key point of micro-course is analysis and process of the ideas of solving the problem. So the main form of expression is PowerPoint and writing-board.

        3. Micro-course should be mainly used for some typical answers that most students are able to ask, and then teachers can conduct problems surrounded by some subject questions.

        4. Micro-course can show students scientific activities. In this way, students are key speakers, while teachers are conductors.

        IV. Procedures of Micro-course manufacture

        Step1. Choose some knowledge that can be taught in 5-8 minutes.

        Pay attention to following aspects when choosing knowledge:

        ①. It is terse and clear. Knowledge points (key points, difficult points or testing points) must be careful so that it can be taught completely in less than 10 minutes.

        ②. A micro-course should be taught only one given point or typical problem. If it is attached to another knowledge point, it should be established another micro-course when the teacher want to teach carefully. If necessary, the teacher should recombine and process for the content, but shouldn’t copy from the textbook.

        ③. The content should fit the mobile equipment to record, and it can add photos, cartoons or videos.

        ④. The teaching objects are student, so the micro-course is designed for students.

        ①. Choose, analyze and dispose knowledge point

        Whether a micro-course is successful or not, choosing content may play a pivotal role. Therefore, when recording a micro-course, the knowledge point should be determined and be analyzed to deal with, which may make it fit the teaching regular, so as to attain a good teaching result for students’ learning.

        ②. Choose a suitable micro-course for different classes

        The teacher should choose a suitable type micro-course to record before the class according to different knowledge systems that should be taught, which can help students to improve a better result for a class.

        ③. Set up a complete and refined teaching process

        ⑴. The approaching topic is originality and rapid;

        ⑵. The instructing lesson is clear;

        ⑶. The ending is shortcut;

        ⑷. The course should be innovation and brightness.

        ④. Make a practical micro-course courseware

        Step4: Choose making method

        Elements of shooting micro-course type:

        1. Prepare for dressing. The teacher should wear thrifty and simple clothes. The light color suits can be the best but don’t were the clothes in blue or green.

        2. Prepare for body language. According to the class, the teacher may add some body languages as an auxiliary teaching when giving lessons.

        3. On behavior, all sights and smell should be faced to the camera lens. The expression in the eyes shouldn’t“tour” students just like the actual class, and don’t watch from here to there.

        4. It is normal for teacher to make mistakes on speaking when shooting. Therefore, the teacher needn’t worry so much. After telling assistants when a few pauses, the teacher can restart the teaching to record again.

        Elements of writing-board type:

        1. The earphone can be chosen type USB; The writing-board should be bought Wacon; The software for board may be selected Smoothdraw; The screen for recording might be opted Camtasia software.

        2. When recording, the teacher should use professional writing equipment. Before recording, the teacher should be familiar with the machine and exercise expertly so as to operate naturally when shooting.

        3. Convenient for film editing, the teacher should focus on the time. When recording words, the time can remain a little length between the words.

        4. The teacher had better make the course vivid and interesting. After recording, the teaching video should be managed if necessary.

        V. Summary

        At present, the internal micro-course platform is mainly used for manufacture and competition. It needs to explore and improve gradually for learner’s actual requirements in its development. In my opinion, the usage of micro-course is not for evaluation and competition, but for various aspects such that learners are addicted in some interesting knowledge or technical ability in their work time or after-class time, and it can even be applied in teaching mode class. Therefore, as we believe, with the increasing amount of micro-course and the gradual improvement of functions of micro-course online application, it will be a normality of livings for people to use micro-course to be in progress under mobile learning and ubiquitous learning.
