Tibet is among the most popular places for Chinese tourists. The number of travelers to Tibet has grown by 10 percent every year for a few years. What is the best way to go to Tibet for tourist trip, by plane, by bus or by train? People who want to go to Tibet always ask this question. If you take the plane, you wont see the beautiful places on the way. If you take the bus, you will be very tired after the trip. If you take the train, you can enjoy the scenery along the way and sleep quite well. Now, since July 1, when the first train ran 1,956 kilometers from Xining to Lhasa, more and more people have been going to Tibet.

The train stops at several famous places along the way, such as Qinghai Lake, Kunlun Mountain, and the Potala Palace. Passengers can enjoy many activities during the journey, like the Tibetan dancing and Karaoke. On the train, passengers can have tea, eggs and noodles for breakfast, and fried green vegetables and chicken for lunch. Unlike most Chinese trains which have open-hole toilets, this one has special toilets which can collect the waste. There is also a special garbage system in the train that keeps the environment clean.

All the windows on the train can protect people from the bright sunlight. Other equipment, such as televisions and electrical sockets for computers and cell phones, can also be found on the train.

Because there isnt much oxygen there, trains will have oxygen masks for those who need them. It makes the passengers feel more comfortable when they have enough oxygen on the famous “roof of the world”. There are also doctors on the train to make sure that all of the travelers are safe.

        “Thank you” and “Excuse me”

American people have the habbit of saying “Thank you”. They say “Thank you” whenever others help them or say something kind to them. People of other countries do so, too. You should say “Thank you” when someone passes you the salt on the table, when someone walking ahead of you keeps the door open for you, or when someone says your work is well done, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is beautiful.

“Thank you” is used not only between friends, but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives.

“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. when you hear someone say so behind you, you know that somebody wants to walk past without touching[觸及] you.

Its not polite to break others while they are talking. If you want to speak to one of them, say “Excuse me” first, and then begin talking. You should also do so when you want to cough or make any unpleasant noise before others.

There are many occasions for “Thank you” and “Excuse me”. We should learn to say them in the right situation.

Just like Chinese, westerners give gifts on many occasions[場(chǎng)合], such as, on birthdays of good friends, at Christmas and some other holidays. Although gifts are always welcome, it is not necessary to exchange[交換] gifts at any time. They exchange gifts only among good friends.

Usually when you are invited to dinner, you neednt bring a gift except on special occasions, for example, when you are going to be a weekend guest[賓客]. If you wish to bring something, the gifts should always be small, simple and cheap. You might bring some sweets or some small toys for the children, or a book, some flowers,a bottle of wine etc for the host[主人]. If you want to make your gifts special, you can bring some Chinese tea, Chinese paintings, Chinese papercuts[剪紙] or other things like that,or even you can cook Chinese dish and bring it with you.

Westerners prefer to open a gift at once, and admire[贊美] it. They would thank you and make some comment[談?wù)揮 about the gifts beauty so that you know they like your gift very much.

Back in 1994, I decided to learn Chinese-the most difficult thing I could think of to do. In 1996, my company was going to set up a small factory in Qingdao and of course I volunteered to work there. Of all the places to live and work in China, Qingdao is the best. I think.

Qingdao is a popular tourist city for people to go for summer vacations. Its beaches can be crowded during the summer months. There are plenty of places you can visit in Qingdao: the old Governors Mansion[總督官邸], Laoshan Mountain and Nanshan Market. The German Governors Mansion was built in the late 19th century. At that time, Qingdao was a German colony[殖民地].

The German Governors Mansion is a famous hotel now. Laoshan Mountain is a favorite tourist spot. It is about an hours drive from Qingdao. Nanshan Market is an open air market where you can find almost anything you want.

The foods in Qingdao are famous. Seafood is the most popular dish. Another traditional dish is mutton soup. For only one US dollar, you can get a big bowl of soup with a few pieces of mutton in it.
