Benxi is a city of hot springs. Many hot springs are seen on the land surface. The Temple of Hot Springs is the place to which Nurhachi,the first emperor of the Qing dynasty, brought his troops to rest after battles were fought, while Tanggou was the base area of General Yang Jingyu,who was the leader of the Northeast United Anti-Japanese Army. Both of them relied on the springs in Benxi to survive in a world of ice and snow before they were able to resume their fight.
