Once upon a time, there was a boy with short hair and a round belly[肚子]. Now he hates adventures[冒險(xiǎn)]and feels a strange kind of fear to the unknown future. That’s me and I call myself Hobbit Boy.
A hobbit is a creature[生物]from England writer J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories. They have short bodies with unusually big feet that have long curly hair. They live in comfortable Hobbit Holes, never do anything challenging or exciting—but enjoy ordinary happy life.
I think I’m hobbit-like.
BOOM[隆隆聲]!!!
I found myself lying in a puddle[水坑], all wet—from head to toe. I didn’t know why I was there and how I got there. I could only get up and look around.
Suddenly, I saw a green wooden round door with a copper[銅制的]doorknob[球形門拉手]—it’s a traditional design of the Hobbits!
I went to knock at the door and guess who opened the door? It was Mr. Bilbo Baggins! He was the hobbit who went on a journey to help some dwarfs[矮子]to get their mountain back.He smiled and said, “Good morning, boy. Come in and dry yourself up, then get a cup of tea with a piece of cake. You are the fi rst guest today.”
“Don’t you wanna ask who I am?”I asked. “I come from another world.”
“If you have seen thirteen dwarfs and a wizard[男巫]rush into your home and eat up all the food, then take you to a dangerous journey, you won’t be surprised to any unusual guest.” He laughed.
I followed him to his warm and comfortable hole. I was so pleased and said,“How beautiful the life is with no adventures!”
Surprisingly, Mr. Baggins said, “Taking an adventure is the most correct thing I’ve ever done. It gave me a lot, made my life lively.”
I was confused[困惑的]because he was so happy when he went back home,I thought he still hates adventures. Next, I asked him what he earned from his adventure. He answered, “My adventure might lose the respect[尊重]from my neighbors, but I have got many good friends like Baling and Gandalf. I have also met some great heroes, such as Thorn. I have crept[爬行]over rocks and walked down trees, been to the caves where sun has never shone, streams that never fi nd the sea. I understand what friendship is and what means never giving up.”Mr. Baggins cleared his throat and then made a summary “Adventures help us learn more and see more. They make our lives meaningful.”
Knock, Knock, Knock... “It must be a new guest, maybe a new adventure!”Mr.Baggins said with a smile.
Knock, Knock, Knock. My clock rang, but I knew what I should do. “It is real,”I thought, because I was still holding a piece of cake!
